Help me free my notebook

I have an HP DV5-1244la notebook @:

 

250 GB HD, 3Gb RAM

 

Core 2 Duo t6400

 

Broadcom wireless

 

Realtek Ethernet

 

Vista Home OS

 

I would want to build a full machine, single OS of the X kind and I need help...

 

I have tried iDeneb 5.6 and got circle error ??? and also tried iAtkos 5.5 (No mouse/Keyboard/track pad)... got totally confused....and have attempted to fix permissions of PS2

 

kext's ,, and followed RAMJET's procedures to no avail.

 

Of course, I am a very old noob, and a trifle hard headed....and I need expert help.

 

Please, if anyone can point out good guides/procedures/stuff to be got & done
