nothing is saving to my harddrive

Nothing is saving to my hard drive, im in single user mode after my first install using mount -uw /. The first time I did this is said some verbose and some changes saved, but between the mounting of my msdos flash stick and restrting the cpu, I try mounting with that -uw / again and I dont get any verbose. I try saving anyways like making a new directory, it seems like it works and I see it there, but then I reboot the cpu and its gone. Im totaly new at this so any help on what im doing wrong would be appreciated, im on kalyway 10.4.10 btw
