shef_city_techno
Hi there, i'm pretty new to this and I'm trying to install OSX on my friends Asus F7Sseries laptop. Sorry to have to ask about a probably unsupported hardware but I've searched and searched for any info on this laptop and haven't found anything that helped. I've been playing around with osx86 builds on my server at home for the last few months and have got a nicely running install on my Dell PowerEdge 840 Server running iAtkos 10.5.5, Intel Pentium D 1.8, 4gb ram, gForce 6200 PCI graphics and Tascam FireOne soundcard. I used Kalyway, JaS then finally iAtkos to get my server running with full compatibility but finally now it is running sweet with pretty much everything working apart from that it sometimes crashes when the monitor turns off. I really want to try and get it running on the laptop though for doing music production so does anyone know if the Asus F7Sseries is compatible at all? I tried using my iAtkos install DVD and it boots, you see the grey apple screen for about 2 seconds then the computer resets, Kalyway does roughly the same excpet you don't even see the apple screen it just starts loading then resets. I tried a JaS DVD and the installer does load but doesn't show any drives available for install. I tried the disk utility and it does see the internal harddrive (250gb) which has 4 partitions, the hidden factory partition, vista c drive, vista data d drive and the 4th macosx partition which I created using Acronis disk director suite making it primary and formatted as fat32. When I click erase the drive to mac_os extended it looks like it does it fine and doesn't come up with any errors but there are still no drives visibile to install on. I tried mounting the drive with the disk utility and it says drive unmountable try the repair tool and the repair tab of the disk utility is all greyed out. If anyone out there has any suggestions its massively appreciated :) thanks in advance, m- sheffield city techno Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/169297-installing-osx86-on-asus-f7sseries-laptop/ Share on other sites
SquidLord
Do you mean F8? or A7? i can't find F7 on ASUS's site. also, for my installation, i selected a my drive and selected the option with (Journaled) under the Erase tab. The drive should be visible after that...assuming you can use disc utility Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/169297-installing-osx86-on-asus-f7sseries-laptop/#findComment-1169999 Share on other sites

What distro did you use, do you know if there is one which is better for laptops? Also can osx86 be ran off a USB drive or would the connection be too slow to run the OS? Thanks very much for any help:) I'm going to try the iPC distro cos I've just been reading about that and it sounds like a good one to test, does anyone know what the most up to date distro is?
