Here's my report on how I got iPC 10.5.6 running on my system.

I. First, my system specs:

- Intel DG33BU Motherboard (http://www.intel.com/Products/Desktop/Motherboards/DG33BU/DG33BU-overview.htm)

- XFX GeForce 8500 GT Fatal1ty 512MB DDR2 (PV-T86J-Y1SW) with 1 DVI and 1 VGA port (http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/products/graphiccards/Fatal1tyseries/8500GT%20Fatal1ty.aspx)

- Apple Cinema 20" monitor

- SATA Hard Drive

- SATA CD/DVD ROM Drive

- IDE CD/DVD ROM Drive

- Microsoft USB Webcam with built-in microphone

II. These are the problems I encountered during my tries to get everything working:

- iPC DVD didn't boot from SATA CD/DVD drive. And could not find drivers for Leopard to see IDE drives. So I had to use a IDE DVD drive during install, and then a SATA drive after the installation for daily use.

- GPU didn't work with NVdarwin. Did work with NVinject, but with no QE/CI. Did not try NVkush. In the end, I didn't use any injectors, just EFI string in Boot.plist (more details ahead)

- Could never get the microphone input from the onboard sound working. Had to use my webcam's microphone

III. Installation procedures:

1. As described above, I could not boot the iPC DVD from my SATA CD/DVD drive. Don't know exactly why, but it seems that Darwin/Chameleon can't see SATA drives connected to DG33BU. I also remember trying to install iPC on an IDE drive in the past, and although the installation went fine, the HFS partitions on the IDE drive never showed up in Darwin/Chameleon. I think it's all related. Fortunately I had an old IDE drive, which I connected to my motherboard and could boot the install DVD.

2. Booted the install DVD with "Graphics Mode"="1680x1050x32" parameter in Darwin (that's my monitor native resolution, it's nice to do all installation with a higher resolution)

3. During install, I did select the following items after selecting "Customize":

- iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Base System

- Language Translations

   - <selected the ones I needed>

- Drivers

   - Video Drivers

     - <did not select any drivers/injectors>

   - Chipset Drivers

     - Intel ICHx SATA Drivers

  - Audio Drivers

     - ALCxxx

       - ALC888

   - Ethernet Drivers

     - Intel 82566MM/DC

- Fixes and Patches

   - Shutdown/Restart Fix (not sure if it's really needed, but seems that restarting didn't work without it)

- Applications

  - OSx86 Tools (needed to add the EFI string in Boot.plist)

  - <selected all others that I wanted>

4. After restart, booted with -f parameter in Darwin (and again with "Graphics Mode"="1680x1050x32")

5. At this point Leopard was running with sound and network. Video was fixed at only one resolution and had no QE/CI. Never could get the mic-in input to work, but Leopard did detect my webcam's mic and that was enough for me. Line-in and out are working

6. In order to fix the video, used OSx86Tools to add my card's EFI string in Boot.plist. To avoid errors related to paths with spaces, I first renamed the folder from "OSx86 Tools" to "OSx86_Tools" than ran the application

7. In OSx86Tools selected "Add EFI Strings/Boot Flag", then "GFX Strings" and then "Custom GeForce hex"

8. Entered my card's description (e.g. "nVidia GeForce 8500 GT")

9. Selected my card's memory (e.g 512MB)

10. For some reason the default NVCAP strings used by all utilities never worked for my card (even when I used Kalyway with NVinject, I had to manually change NVCAP in NVinject.kext). It seems to be related to the card's ports. Using the default ones I always got a black screen on my DVI monitor, so I guess the signal was being sent to the VGA port). So, I chose "Custom..." and entered "BQAAAAAABAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA=" (without the quotes). That's the NVCAP string for hex 05000000 00000400 00000000 00000000 00000000. As you can see, I made sure the video would be sent to my DVI port by disabling the other 2 channels.

11. After creating my custom GeForce hex, I entered my screen resolution (1680x1050x32) on the corresponding field, so that the grey apple screen on boot would always be shown on that resolution.

12. At last I clicked on "Apply changes to com.apple.Boot.plist" and after restarting I had all resolutions and QE/CI (I immediately noticed that QE was OK because of the menu bar transparency).

I hope that all this information may help others with similar hardware.

Best wishes

rcglaser

UPDATE: After creating a backup of my Leopard partition, I installed Mac OSX Update 10.5.7. After the 2 or 3 restarts, Leopard was up again running version 10.5.7. Video was still working with all resolutions and QE/CI. The only problem I noticed was sound, which stopped working. After dropping my codec dump on AppleHDAPatcherv1.20 and restarting, sound was working again.

Hi, i've been away from insanelymac for a while and did not receive any e-mail informing your post. So, sorry to reply just now. Don't know if you are still facing the problem... Anyway, when I boot with the install DVD in the drive, I also have only one option (to boot the install DVD). What happens when you boot without the DVD? What partition scheme did you use (MBR or GUID)?

Hey, now i fix this problem, just SATA cables moves deliberately and system boot. But boot only with iPC DVD. Now I have one problem. osx dont wakeup after sleep :D just black screen and I need restart system. Maybe you know this problem fix?

I think the short time to try to Snow Leopard. Maybe you install?

Thank you for your help without you I dont be instal osx. Thanks

As my box is primarily a WinXP system, I use chain0 method to choose between WinXP and Leopard. And as iPC installed a booloader on the Leopard partition, I can boot Leopard easily. In that way you don't need the iPC DVD.

I never managed to make the sleep function work on my Hackintosh. But as the boot time is pretty short, I don't mind having to shutdown every time.

And right now I'm writing from the Snow Leopard I just installed in my Hackintosh. I will soon publish a thread explaining all steps needed to install Snow Leopard using the DG33BU board.

Hello,

I'm a new user here and I have some trouble to install iPC 10.5.6 on my DG33BU board.

So, this is the hardware used:

- Intel DG33BU motherboard

- Integrated video adapter based on Intel GMA 3100

- SATA Hard Drive

- SATA CD/DVD ROM Drive

The system boot regularly from the Install DVD, than I proceed with the "-v" option to a verbose installation.

After some seconds the system "freeze" on an waiting message. Here I attach a picture of the "error" (sorry for the flash in the middle of the screen).

The BIOS is set as:

ATA/IDE mode: Native

Configure SATA as: AHCI

SMART: Enable

What can I do to solve this error ?

(Excuse me for the bad English)

Thanks.

Edit: Same happens with a IDE CD/DVD ROM Drive

The only way I managed to succesfully install iPC was using an IDE DVD drive. And in my BIOS the SATA drives were configured as IDE (I later changed to AHCI in order to install Snow Leopard).

But, from what I've read until now, you won't be able to run MacOSX using the onboard GMA 3100. That's why I got the GeForce.

Hey

This is Gautham from the Snow Leopard thread. I tried installing iPC Mac OS X 10.5.6 according to your guide.

I get the same problem as GPL_Happy except the two "can't determine..." lines under the ACPI System State line.

I am stuck at the same "Waiting on <dict ID=8>..." line.

Is your DVD drive SATA or PATA? As I explained in this thread, I had to use a PATA DVD drive to install iPC. But, as I explained in my Snow Leopard thread, I recently could boot the iPC installation DVD using the Native/AHCI configuration in BIOS. Did you try configuring SATA in BIOS in all combinations possible (Legacy, Native/IDE and Native/AHCI)? And also, try switching the DVD and HD ports...

Well, as I don't have my PATA DVD drive anymore, I won't be able to run some tests. I just verified that I could boot the iPC 10.5.6 install DVD from my SATA drive no matter how I configured my BIOS: Native/IDE, Native/AHCI and Legacy. I probably could not do this back when I installed iPC because of the SATA ports I used. As you can see in the pictures below, today my SATA HDs are connected to ports 0 and 1 and my SATA DVD drive to port 4.

Here are my BIOS screenshots:
