mmhardky
Hi everyone! I am a hackintosh newbie, but I hope I will get some advice here:) I have a E8400 that I want to use as a CPU for a very low-cost hackintosh, that will be used with Apple Main-Stage software (part of Logic Studio). As my budget is very limited, I prefer components as cheap as possible, but they should be ofcourse working well with OSX. I will go with 4GB DDR2 ram (should I go for 667 or 800MHz?) and a 160GB sata HDD The graphic card should work with HW acceleration, as Main Stage renders stuff in Open GL. I was thinking about Nvidia 8600GTS 256MB. Does it matter what brand? MSI perhaps? I know Motherboard is most important and that is why I came here for advice. I need the onboard audio to be working flawlesly, same for USB, but I don't need any extra stuff like Wifi, I don't think I will ever need LAN. The only interfaces I need is PCI-E for the graphics card and a PCI for a future firewire card. I was thinking about Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L it even has integrated graphics, but will it perform well with Logic Studio? Thanks guys! TomCom
MB's fine. Very compatible but integrated graphics only works in 1024x768. More info here: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...10.5.6#Gigabyte About DDR2, get the 667 if you don't want to OC you CPU, and 1066 if you do want to. For graphics, the cheaper must be Nvidia's 8400GS. Check the HCL before choosing which brand. About hard drives: a 160GB WD costs 42$, and a much faster 320GB one 50$. Mastachief
Anyone? , 800mhz the more frequency cycles you have the faster the memory operates, using evga products seem to be the hit nowadays, alc 883 sound chip will work lan will work it is realtek after all, stay away from onboard graphics the board itself gets good reviews but i have not seen it turn up in being used on insanekymac, keep looking for a better board. :pirate2: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/169154-want-to-build-a-hackintosh-for-logic-studio/#findComment-1170056 Share on other sites
Zaap
The Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L is one of the most popular boards for Hackintosh- I don't see how anyone who's even glanced at this forum for any length of time could fail to see it mentioned. It works great. As others have said, on board graphics are a no-go. More important than the lack of resolution switching is the lack of Core Image and Quartz Extreme. None of the Pro apps, including logic, will install without these enabled, so use a supported PCIe card. Since graphics isn't your main focus though, you could easily get away with a very cheap graphics card that gets you QE/CI and offers decent but not stellar performance. Example: 7300GT $25. (actually a very good card). Or: 7200GS $18 after rebates. TomCom
At this price, you could afford a quad-SLI! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/169154-want-to-build-a-hackintosh-for-logic-studio/#findComment-1170137 Share on other sites
mmhardky
Thank you guys! I was quite sure about the MB. I've spend several hours reading this forum. I just wanted to know if someone has experience also with Logic Studio 8 on a hackintosh with regard at these components. So onboard graphics is definitely a no go. I have found MSI 8600GTS-OC 256MB for 30 eur, which is a very good price for that card here, as 7xxx cards are also about 30 EUR.
