Still waiting for root device after formatting a secondary drive

AHHH!!!

 

perfect gigabyte install p31-es3g

4gb ram

toshiba dvd sata

160gb sata

320gb ide

120gb ide

 

320 WAS ext2

120 WAS NTFS

160 Sata was/is hfs+ journaling

 

I went to disk utility and atempted to format the 320gb it would not format or partition.

I rebooted to a live ubuntu cd and formatted it. it did not want to take.

I tried to restart into mac os and I got the circle with a line through it.

I went into verbose mode.... Still waiting for root device.... I boot from install and disk utility the drive where my install is, is grayed out... I can't do anything to it! help!! there's family pictures on it!
