intelinside
Hey everyone, I'm trying to install OS X 10.5.6 (iDeneb) on my PC. I have 2 500 gig hard drives on this machine and I made a separate 50 gig partition on my second HDD strictly for OS X. When I go into Disk Utility in the setup it shows my 2 hard drives (says I only have 128 gigs on each drive) and it won't show the partition I made. Although, Windows shows it. I've tried setting it as NTFS and no partition. But, OS X setup will recognize my other 2 drives that are NTFS. I thought maybe it has to be an AF partition so I tried making it with diskpart in Windows using this command: create partition primary size=51200 id=af and I get this error: "There is insufficient free space to create a partition at the specified size and offset." although the entire drive is empty. I don't think its a disk type issue, but the setup simply won't show any partition I make, just the 2 whole drives. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you. ---------------------- PC SPECS ---------------------- OS: Microsoft® Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit Processor: Intel® Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40Ghz Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS4P Memory: OCZ DDR 2 6GB @ Dual Channel HDD: Samsung HD501LJ SATA 500 GB WDC WD5000AAKS-75A7B2 SATA 500 GB Video Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 4870X2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/168396-issues-installing-on-a-partition/ Share on other sites
The.Se7enth
Mac will recognize NTFS in the Disk Utility, but you cannot use NTFS to install; NTFS = Windows NT File System. You have to leave that partition blanked, not formatted in any way, and format/erase it on iDeneb/iPC/Kalyway's "Disk Utility" as "Mac OS X (Journaled)" for you to be able to use it in an install. intelinside
Thanks for the fast reply Right, I wasn't trying to install onto NTFS though. I just want Disk Utility to recognize the partition so I could delete and format it under Mac's FS. Even if I have a blank partition, it won't recognize it. It only shows my 2 drives. I don't understand why it won't show all 3 (2 drives AND partition) if they're all the same file system. I've created partitions for OS X and it would show; but I didn't have Windows installed on that drive at all, whether or not it was that partition. My only suggestion is to delete that partition in Windows' Disk Manager, and leave the space as "Unallocated". Then go in with iDeneb's Disk Utility, and select the drive, and click on the unallocated space and partition that to a Mac OS X (Journaled) partition... That should work, as far as I know. I'm having so much trouble with iDeneb lately though that I'm not sure if it's worth it... I might just give up myself until I can afford a real Mac, with less hassle.
