linedpaper
Hello, I recently purchased a new (larger) hard drive for the girlfriends laptop. I would prefer to clone it as to avoid installing everything again and was wondering what OS X cloning tool would best to use in this scenario. I want an exact copy of everything and it needs to have the ability to resize the partition to fill up the new larger hard drive. Any suggestions? I haven't done cloning on a Mac before so I'm not certain on what software to use. I was reading on SuperDuper and it says it copies everything except temporary and system specific files, is this enough to give me what I'm looking for? Thanks in advance for the help! Tim Hi linedpaper: Does your girlfriend have a real Mac? (MacBook, MacBook Pro, Powerbook, iBook, etc?) If so, I'd recommend using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. http://www.bombich.com/software/index.html http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/Sup...escription.html If she is using Hackintosh or OSx86 PC, I'd recommend using Clonetool Hatchery. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/24693 Here's what I usually do (for OSx86 PC's): 1) Boot from Tiger or Leopard OSx86 DVD. 2) Go into Tools - Disk Utility. 3) Format and create Mac OS Extended partition (be sure to choose correct one!) and make sure the options are set to MBR (Master Boot Record). 4) Quit the Disk Utility and Installer. Remove the DVD-ROM. 5) Go into existing OSx86 Partition, and open up CloneTool Hatchery. 6) Make sure the correct Source and Destination are selected. 7) Uncheck the Erase Disk and Bless Disk. 8) Click on Hatch. After completed, reboot and boot into new clone!
