The Basilisk
The OSX installer finds my hard drive perfectly but when I try to use disk utility to erase the partition I made, I get an error saying that "the underlying task reported failure on exit". Does anybody know why this is happening? At times I get a different error saying "could not write to partition map" I think part of the problem is that disk utility says that my hard drive is not mounted. When I try to moun the disk I get anoter error and tells me to use rescue. Can someone please help! I've searched all over this site and couldn't find any solutions to my problems. The Basilisk
help It seems that the "The underlying Task reported failure on exit" error is due to the harddrive not being mounted properely but I think I found the answer to the problem. For one, I re-burnt my install dvd using a slower speed. It seems that my original disk was corrupt due to burning at too high of a speed. Second, I wiped out all my existing partitions and used disk utility to create two partitions and formatted the disk perfectly. After this, my harddrive mounted perfectly without any problems. So my suggestions are that you reburn you install dvd using a slower speed and to use disk utility under the OSX installer to partition your hard drive into two (or whatever you like). WARNING: By using disk utility to partition your hard drive, all your existing files will be deleted!
