Audigex
Hi, apologies if this has been asked before, but the search function seems to be playing up for me: There was an error processing the request. Please go back and try again, or contact an administrator for assistance. connection to unix:///var/socketproxy/insanelymac.com/searchd:0 failed (errno=2, msg=No such file or directory) So naturally I can't poke around for previous askers, if anyone would mind possibly sparing a moment to search and throw me a couple of likely-relevant threads, that'd be great. Basically I'm wanting to have a go at hackintosh-ing, but I already have most of the parts. I'm aware that some Phenom II chips will work, but there doesn't seem to be much on the specifics, and I can't find my board and chip anywhere. CPU: AMD Phenom II x3 720BE 2.8gHz (currently overclocked, but can reduce back to stock if it happens to cause problems) Motherboard: Biostar TA790GX3 A2+ (AM2+ socket, 790GX northbridge and I think the southbridge is the SB750) RAM: 4gb (2x2gb) Kingston HyperX (PC2-8500 / DDR2-1066) GPU: nVidia (well, PNY I think) 8800GT 512mb I'm pretty sure the 8800GT works? Although I'm happy enough to use the ATI-3300 onboard if that's easier. I gather that it's easier on intel chips, since certain ones (Q6600 etc) are used in actual macs - what's it like with AMD? I've also seen a video of a Phenom II CPU being used with OSX, but I don't know which specific version (there seem to be several) or chip - although it looked to be either a 940 or 720 - the 720 being a 940 with a core disabled) My question is basically whether the cpu, motherboard and chipset above work, or are at least likely to work, with OSX - just so I know whether it's worth giving it a go. Not too bothered about sound, if the onboard works that's fantastic but I'll likely get a PCI(/PCIe) wireless card and soundcard which are compatable if the rest works okay. Absolutely any input on the above welcome Many thanks. ~Jon Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/168103-phenom-ii-790gx-chipset-amd-hackintosh/ Share on other sites

However, I am not sure on the status of the mod, so you'll have to look that up in the new releases section. However using google to search the forums does work, http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...p:/t160327.html I find the onboard graphics dont work, need to be disabled, user is running Ideneb make sure to disable onboard, and to turn on ahci. Audigex
That's fantastic, thanks - and I hadn't noticed the google search :-( I'm assuming I have to specifically disable the onboard, rather than just let the bios use the 8800GT by default? What's AHCI? Will it allow me to use my sata drives as normal with windows, or could it cause problems there? Perfectly happy to re-install windows if it turns out I need to, but it'd be handy to know beforehand. TomCom
Yes, disable the onboard graphics in the Bios. Same thing for the AHCI feature used by Sata drives. To know what it is for sure, read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AHCI AHCI is not supported natively by XP. You'll have to reinstall it with the driver, unless you can record your bios profile (F11 with an AWARD bios, and F12 to load it). If you have a different Bios, it may be available too. Read your motherboard booklet. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/168103-phenom-ii-790gx-chipset-amd-hackintosh/#findComment-1164765 Share on other sites
Audigex
I left XP behind 2 years ago, so that's not a problem - as long as Vista and W7 can handle it I'm fine.
