shaneuk
So i traded in my mac mini in order to build a hackintosh. i wont be using this build with any other OS but OS X so its important that its 100% compatible! some feedback would be appreciated before i blow all my cash on it:) Mobo: Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3 Intel P43 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo e5200 2.5ghz RAM: Kingston HyperX 2GB (1x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C5 800MHz Memory GPU: Gigabyte GeForce 8600 GT Silent Zalman 256MB DVD: Pioneer DVR-216DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter **PSU: would a 425w PSU power this build? shaneuk
no one at all? i wouldn't ask but the hardware DB n HCL seem practically useless :/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/168006-first-build/#findComment-1163633 Share on other sites
Zaap
It should work. Keep in mind, the most crucial part is the motherboard. The 10.5.6 HCL wiki lists the GA-EP43-DS3L as working with iPC 10.5.6. If you can, switch to a better supported board, like the EP45-UD3P or micro ATX- GA-G31M-ES2L. Or find a guide for the EP43, especially if you plan to do a retail install. The graphic card should work fine- use EFI strings to set it up. (EFIStudio, OSx86Tools, or UInstaller). Yes, 425w is plenty of power for that system, just use a decent quality PSU, not a cheap-o no-name brand. theDAmartini
The setup looks good. Just wondering why not go with the 8600gts ? Its a little more horsepower, fully supported and cheap, !~$45 at the egg. For your PSU, check these out: Corsair 450w Something cheaper, yet just as solid for you: Fortron 450W PSU Do not skimp on the PSU. It is by far one of the most common things new builders skimp on. It is very important to provide continuous CLEAN power to your computer. -Ryan Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/168006-first-build/#findComment-1163911 Share on other sites
