Hello All! I'm running 10.5.7 on my Dell 1525, and I just recently upgraded my Processor to a T9500. It runs great, but after doing that I realized that my bios was A13 and the newest update from Dell was A16. So, 2 Questions:

1. Should I update my Bios to A16?

2. And if so, how do I go about it? (I attempted to do this in VirtualBox, but it gave me the error 0x00000203 when I attempted to install it)

Any thoughts or suggestions would be great!

Thanks!

JD

I don't think you can upgrade the BIOS on a Dell PC without having Windows installed.

Go to the download page of the BIOS in Dell's website and read the instructions there. See if they offer an alternative download, or if it's possible to flash the BIOS from a bootable USB stick. I doubt it though.

Should I try to install a dual boot then?

You should do whatever you feel is necessary. :thumbsup_anim:

If Dell provides a download that's supposed to go on a floppy disk, then you can download it and do whatever you have to do on another PC. Then just boot up your hackintosh from floppy (if it has a floppy drive obviously) and flash the BIOS normally. Maybe they provide a download that can be run from bootable USB flash drive. In the same way, you can use another PC to download and prepare it and then boot from it on your Dell.

Bottom line is you should find out what exactly is in the download and what options you have. Go to the download page for your BIOS update and read.

I can't believe you tried to flash your BIOS from within a virtual machine. That's just crazy. Reminds me of a story i once heard of a guy who thought he could use Photoshop to remove people's clothes in digital photos.
