punchkick
my laptop: Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 PSAAPE 1.73 GHz Celeron, 1GB Ram 60GB hard drive (annoyingly small) GMA 945 Graphics Atheros AR5006EG Not the greatest laptop, it was great for the money at the time, had it bout 3 years now. Came with that vista {censored} which felt slow and annoying, XP runs perfectly well. I didn't think a celeron with a GB of ram could take on OS X though, cos to me even the low end mac's seem to have much better specs than my laptop. but there you go!! Btw, I could list more if anyone is interested, didn't wanna fill the post with just tech specs. I'm currently using XxX 10.5.6, so far everything is working except sleep. It does go into sleep, the blue power light changes to a glowing amber. When I press the power button to resume it's like it comes back on but screen doesn't so I have no option but to hard reset. If anyone has any info on how this may be fixed that'd be great. I did previously try iPC 10.5.6 and the sleep funtion worked but the laptop would only boot to desktop in safe mode. There is also a problem with Intel PRO100/ve network card where os x claims the device is there but the cable is disconnected. I got it working by powering down, disconnecting the ethernet cable, let os x boot, connect ethernet cable and then it seems to recognise it and works totally fine. Here's my install customizations: Leave any defaults, I actually forgot to take a note of what they were, I can find out for anyone who wants to know. Chipset: ICHx Chipset Support and New IC10 GFX: Intel GMA -> GMA950 -> GMA950 Audio: AppleAzaliaAudio Ethernet: IntelPRO100/ve Wi-Fi: Atheros Wireless Power Management: ACPI Battery Manager Others: USB_FIX I'm not that knowledgeable with mac's the only mac's i've used extensively are Mac Classics and that was about 10yrs+ ago!! So I won't be able to give any reasons behind the options I took during installation. Anyway that's my story. Next all I need is a much bigger internal drive for dual-booting without the annoyance of running out of drive space. punchkick
Just thought i'd update this for anyone who is interested. Got ethernet working, sometimes requires a restart in order for osx to see that it's definitely not in use. Sleep works, can't get any sort of hibernate function though, tried deep sleep and all it does is continue to ask for my password. Software update works, initally I tried all updates except 10.5.7 and everything was working fine. Just tried 10.5.7 and, well i'm using osx right now so all is good. punchkick
Like i've said i'm not the most clued up on mac's but XxX is working well for me. There's still a couple of things i'm having a bit of bother with, sleep/hibernate but to be honest other than that the OS is stable, software runs well and doesn't feel like it's limited in anyway even though it's not a mac. Good luck with XxX! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/166731-toshiba-satellite-pro-a100-1056-successalmost/#findComment-1160670 Share on other sites
djcrazymonkey
Hi there, glad you've got most things working. I've got the normal Toshiba A100, and the specs are pretty similar to yours, but I was wondering if you can control the brightness of your screen using the Fn+F keys (I presume the Pro A100 control brightness the same way, with software), and if so, how did you do that? Thanks. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/166731-toshiba-satellite-pro-a100-1056-successalmost/#findComment-1174804 Share on other sites
admLoki
Is your Wi-Fi connection stable? I have Toshiba A135 notebook and replaced Atheros with Broadcom BCM4311(DW1390) to got it working on 100%.
