cocoa noir
Longtime Mac user here, been reading the wiki and the forum for a while, with a couple of questions. I'm planning to build my own OSx86 machine. Do I have to install Windows before I can use the myzar install disc (recently downloaded )? I'm a little confused about flashing the bios. I plan to use a Pentium D 930 and Intel D945G series mobo. Are there better options in this price range? Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/16653-noob-to-build-osx86/ Share on other sites

You boot from the DVD, format HDD if needed, and install and then boot from the HDD. You will have to select the boot volume from the BIOS, but typically no "flashing" of the BIOS is needed. The Pentium D 930 & Intel mobo should be good choices. My opinion is you are best to stay with Intel integrated video (GMA900 or GMA950) UNTIL until Apple releases their own towers and you can invest in a PCIE Video card with some confidence of "support". Lastly, if you want to "dual boot" (or triple boot) into alternate operating systems (Windoze, Linux, etc.), hard drives are so cheap that I recommend a separate HDD for each operating system. Simpler, more reliable, etc., etc.! G Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/16653-noob-to-build-osx86/#findComment-107298 Share on other sites
cocoa noir
Thanks for the info. Sounds fairly straight forward. The advice on the video means I may bump up to 4G of ram I like your idea about having a separate HD for each OS. Once I have OSX up and running, I may go back and add some variatants of M$ and Linux. Appreciate the input. I've always wanted to do my own build but never wanted to invest in Windows software Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/16653-noob-to-build-osx86/#findComment-107418 Share on other sites
