yozzozo
Hey, anyone have working EFI strings for the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT? I'm trying to get QE/CI working in my Acer Aspire 5920G laptop, and would really like to avoid NVinject.kext (which seems to work fine). I'd be interested in hearing about this too.. I haven't been able to use the EFI string and get QE/CI working, nor does adding my device id's to NVDARESMAN or NVDA50HAL (pardon typos) work. Using EFI Studio or similar makes it show up under System Profiler, but no hardware acceleration support shows up. I use NVKush.kext, btw. Yeah, since EFI Strings are supposed to replace Injector kexts (or so I've read), and they do basically the same thing, hopefully someone can help us out! I've also heard that this same graphics card is used in real MacBook Pros, I wonder if it can be extracted from them too? (I've also read that NVCAP values, which seem to refer to "capabilities" or ports of the card, vary widely from machine to machine. If so, an EFI string from a real MBP wouldn't necessarily work 100% in the Acer 5920G, although maybe just QE/CI would work?) By the way, I've noticed that using NVinject on my laptop says that everything is QE/CI enabled, however it seems to be like the graphic refresh of some UI elements could be faster... It's like seeing a game run at 30fps, which is fine, but you *know* it's capable of 60fps. Specifically I notice that the dock magnification when you mouseover it is fast, but not "ultra-smooth"... same thing with the Flurry screen saver. It's fast, but not as fast as I've seen a real apple machine do. Could be that it's only happening with OpenGL stuff and not QuickDraw, but I'm not sure... I've heard of enabling "QuickDraw 2D Extreme", could that be it? Maybe I'm imagining the whole thing...
