Hi I have been a member for quite some time and posted some hopeully helpful posts so if someone could help me out that would be great. I have built up 4 OSX86 boxes with out any trouble in the past.

Just bought a Dell 5150 / E510 Dual Core Pentium D 2.8 Computer. I installed using the myzar 10.4.4~10.4.5 DVD.

My computer has the i945 chipset and 950 onboard graphics. Everything works great but I have never had any luck changing device ID and altering kexts. Basically, I am Mac Terminal idiot. I think few time I changed the apple.boot.com.plist and I thought I knew about computers more. I have no idea what a "sudo chum command is but think it is possible to cut copy paste it?

So if someone could help me out and post a dumb persons guide to ge my onboard Ethernet Intel Pro/100 VE Ver.2 working. I tried to update the device Id and I think I messed up my original kext? So if someone could post a zipped kext and instructions that would be great.

Also I need to use 10.4.3 AppleHDA.kext to enable audio? I have the Wesley/ Jas 10.4.3 dvd would that need to be copied?

Any help would be great.

Hopefully I can give back to the community what the community has given me...

Thanks again,

Cool Thanks I got the audio working no problem.

I am having trouble installing the "Tulip" folder in Terminal, I can get it to mount but not install. The Tulip guide seems a bit incomplete?

Does anyone know how to install this in more detail.

Thanks,

Yes the cool thing about the the Dell 5150/ E510 is it is very close, and exceeds the to the Dual core Mac mini specs but for less than half the price delivered ot the door. However, it is 10 times the size but hey who's complaining at that price....

  • 3 weeks later...

I am in exactly the same situation - I bought the exact same machine but alas I cannot get sound or networking going either. I tried the Tulip hack and now I have a network with an 'impossible' MAC address of 00:01:23:45:67:89 and no connectivity. Can't get sound to work whatever I do.

The sound method stated above works fine. I did it on 2 Dell 5150/ E510's. They both have sound just fine.

I gave up on the Tulip kext and went to my local Goodwill store. At the goodwill store they have a used computer section and I picked up two 3com ethernet cards for $1.99 each. (check the wiki for compatability) Installed 1 ine ach machine and gave up on the damn tulip kext.

At $1.99 an ethernet card that is simply plug and play it is just not worth the headache....

Also my optical combo drive was detected but had issues, when I ran, patchburn 4 it seemed to work flawlessly. Hope that helps....

Cheers,,,
