I spent three full days on this. I ran into nothing but trouble for several days. I kept getting the dreaded ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugIn error.

I tried the -s -x Cpus=1, Cpus=2, in ATA and AHCI mode.

My screen always looked like this:

I tried Ideneb, Kalyway, Iatkos of various flavours. Could NOT get by that error.

Finally I tried Iatkos 2.0i with my HD in ATA mode and it is now installing! Not sure it will make it all the way to the end, but definitely progress.

Just wanted to post this for anyone else who is stumbling around looking for this solution. I searched for several days. Looks like this was what I needed.

I can NOT get my Dell 1395 Wireless Card working at all. I have tried editing the kext to add the 4315 and tried the .sh script for wireless cards....my card will not show up as a wireless device and no airport icon shows up. I am going to reinstall with NO options on Iatkos, and see if that helps. I had broadcom44xx as the only option previously, but this is a broadcom 43xx, so perhaps that is a problem.

Anyone with any thoughts, I would appreciate them

Now that I have this basically running, I want to try to upgrade to at least 10.5.4 Research says use the Kalyway Upgrade 10.5.3 first. I tried it, and lost my video, but I asked it to install kernel 9.3. Will have to try again without any options.

I am seeing that I have to not enable any options when I run these programs (iatkos and kalyway)

I could NOT get Kalyway Upgrade to work.

So I downloaded Iatkos 4.0i and tried it. I could get it to install, but kept getting a black screen. I worked on this for hours. However, I found that if I installed with the X3100 VGA selection picked (and the SATA I believe I did as well) and then deleted the AppleIntelGMA*, the AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuster.kext and the Natit.kext, then went back, and deleted the Extensions.mkext from the System folder, then

diskutil repairPermissions /Volumes/OSXDrive/

It booted up and is working...finally....finishing installing 10.5.4 now.

Working well. I got hardware acceleration and quartz extreme working with my X3100 video following the process, again, at this thread:

For noobs like me, the problem with the X3100 and the dell is the the dell appears to put the monitor into sleep mode right away, and that is why you get a blank screen. So that sleep display information is extremely important.

I tried an upgrade to 10.5.7 and it did not work. Install gave me the grey reboot your computer screen after about 30%. I am pretty happy with 10.5.4, so I might stay here until things stabilize.
