Today, when googling over why there's no EFI implementation you could reflash instead of your old BIOS, I ran over the fact that Insyde Software produces InsydeH2O which in fact is an EFI implementation.

 

What the hell, I thought. My Acer Aspire One AOA150 has exactly that insyde (sic).

 

This left me wondering, why oh why didn't they make a proper EFI which could, in addition boot Windows (Linux and OSX are ok with EFI), like it does on a Mac. And is it possible at all to drop BIOS compatibility in that laptop.
