Make sure system.kext matches kernel version.

Open System Profiler and click 'software' to see kernel version, click 'extensions' to see system.kext version.

Extract matching system.kext from Apple Combo/Delta Update using Pacifist (google it) or download the Voodoo Kernel installer and pull system.kext from there.

Why do you want to patch the kernel?

If you think installing a kext is too complicated, patching the kernel is right out.

Like I said, make sure that kernel and system.kext versions match. Open System Profiler and have a look.

Took me so long to get my hand on the OSX again. I've checked the Kernel Version and System.kext version in the System Profiler they seem to match!

Kernel Version: Darwin 9.5.0

System.kext: 9.5.0

Nothing is wrong right? Btw, this time I've the Kernel Panic screen attached. Hope it will help in finding a solution?

Enter your PCs BIOS, go to the USB settings, take a photo and attach it here.

Or you can try installing Slice's USB 2.0 drivers. Don't forget to make backups first.

BIOS USB settings look fine.

Your kernel panic mentions IONetworkingFamily.kext.

Maybe you have some sort of conflict with LAN and USB.

Try disabling LAN in the BIOS just as a test to see if things improve.

Boot with -v again after disabling LAN and see if you still get the Family Specific Matching Fails messages. Try connecting your thumb drive. See if it still crashes.

If it doesn't, the problem may be with your LAN and not your USB.

I used to get that same message for every single device on my motherboard when booting up. My motherboard has two LAN ports, I disabled one of them in the BIOS and all of those messages went away. Never had USB problems on this motherboard though.

I am having the exact same issue. Glad I'm not the only one. The problem is that I cannot connect to the web because my wifi is down too. So in order to install a kext I have to burn it on a cd... ouch.

Wish I knew which one to do :P

disabling onboard LAN didn't help :)

Infact I realize that its crashing upon startup recently, even without inserting any USB devices.

I notice the com.Ralink.driver in the kernel panic log above too. Could it be related?

I realize that the com.Ralink.driver is in the kernel panic because it was plugged in at the time I was booting it. It turns out that it is also a reason that is causing the kernel panic. It's funny how USB Thumb Drive, Portable drive and my USB wireless is crashing the system but my Mouse and keyboard is working without any problem.

How can i fix the USB issue?

I had exactly the same problem. Fixed it by doing two things:

- first installed the USB fix to get my wireless dongle working

- after that I got kernel panics when plugging in my USB thumb drive. That was fixed by installing Slice's IOUSBMassStorageClass as Beerkex'd mentioned (thanks!). Available here

Good luck!

Are you referring to the USB fix during iDeneb installation? and which of the USB drivers do I have to install? I see alot of kext and drivers there?

Yes, iDeneb USB fix works fine for me. (in my case the wireless dongle started working after that fix, but I got panics after inserting a flash drive)

And I only had to install this kext to fix the panic problem: IOUSBMassStorageClass205.kext.zip
