This is my 4th install, a crashed it the last 3 times by trying to get all the hardware to work.

Current Problems:

No Keyboard (using external USB keyboard)

No Sound

I have installed the Video Card and got the system to boot of the HDD, with out using a boot cd.

Please help me figure it out, This is new to me. I have been using Windows sense Win 3.11 and OSX is confusing the hell out of me. Because I do not how to install any driver let alone where they are stored.

So far I used OSX86tools, and Chameleon.

Thank you all in advance,

Roman

Note:

I'm a NOOB when it comes to OSX, so please explain it as much as you can.

If you need more info, Please ask and let me know where I can find it.

There may be some extra info in here, I'm sorry about that.

Im still looking around and trying to get it all to work, but I dont install everything I see.

I'm on my 5th OSX install now.

Any advice is greatly appriciated. Thank you.

I have found a couple of guides here on the sound problems i have.

I will try it in a little.

Is there a way anyone can help me to get the builtin keyboard to work.

It would be a great help.

On my 5th Install now... I think.

I made progress.

I got the sound to work... FINALLY...

All thats left is the Internal Keyboard and Touchpad...

I use an external Mouse so I do not really care about the touchpad, but would like to get everything to work.

I have the Kext for the sound to work, but how do I add it into the initrd.img file, I always get an error about not enoghf space on image...

I have been loocking in this forum and this is where I found the Sound fix.

Havent found the rest of this systems hardware yet.

Included the contents of the lspci.txt file. Please help me get the rest of the hardware to work and I will do the rest.

This is all I ask for. But I will still look around this forum and try to get the rest of the hardware to work. Thats if I can Understand what i'm reading.

lspci.txt

I got the Keyboard and touchpad to work with the files included here.

The keyboard works but in the wizard when it tells you to press the key next to shift (you should know what i'm talking about) I get an error of unsupported keyboard. Just a little tweaking and all go to go.

Mouse works but is fast as hell, with all settings turned down.

some tweaking needed here too.

At least it works and I can use the keyboard to type. No more external usb keyboard for me.

All thats left is:

Work out the bugs from Native keyboard and touchpad

eSATA controller not working yet

Gataway USB Webcam (built-in)

Archive.zip

Hey, i've got the same Laptop as you but i am having trouble with the sound, could you attach the kexts (or what you used to get your sound working) to the end of one of you posts? It would be really helpful for me.

I have gotten my laptop keyboard and mouse to work with no problems though, i just had to select PS/2 drivers when installing OS X. What OS X hack did you use? I used iAtkos and it had the right drivers for Keyboard and Mouse.

Again, any help with the sound would be greatly appreciated.

I used Boot 123 for the boot CD and a retail OSX 10.5.6 DVD to install...

CD Name: BOOT-DFE-146-BUM

If you don't mind, can I have a copy of your some of the files so I can test them to see if it will start working normally.

AppleACPIPlatform.kext

ApplePS2Controller.kext

ACPIPS2Nub.kext

These are the files I used to get my keyboard and touchpad to work.

I have included the files I used to get my sound working.

All the ports work and the volume slider on keyboard also works.

So I assume I'm good with the sound problem I had.

Will your Hack work with the OSX 10.5.6 Retail DVD.

Can you tell me what version and where you got it from so I can test it. Hopefully it will work better.

Also if you have a eSATA port, can I have the KEXT's for it. If you know what they are, because I do not have a clue yet. Still getting the hang of it and learning about how the system works and everything is.

My_Audio.zip

]I did not have the "ACPIPS2Nub.kext" file, but I included the other two.

Also i have included the link to where i downloaded the hack/installer i used for OSX, it is technically an illegal download, and i believe forum rules prohibit linking to illegal downloads, which is why i put it in a text file.

Thank you very much for the sound files.

Also for the Wifi problem, I found that I had a usb wifi adapter lieing around and went to its website and downloaded mac drivers for it, so now I have working wifi!

I haven't figured out anything about the E-Sata port, but i don't have a device to use with it.

And with the Mac Installer link I included in "Files", it is the only thing i need to get OSX up and running on my computer, didn't have to use retail disks.

Files.zip

Cool, thanks.

I wonder If I need that NUB kexts file. I will remove it and see how it works...

I have made backups of everything so I can go back to a working system when ever i screw up.

Well, Unless it don't boot no more. :D

Did the files help you out?

Did it get your sound working?

EDIT:

Thank you. Your PS2 kexts file fixed my mouse problem (it was extremely fast, 2mm on pad move it across the whole screen)

The ACPI platform made it all stop working. so I just installed the PS2 kexts to see how it works...

Thank you so much.

  • 3 months later...

wow, this worked for me. I've been trying to get the audio working on my Gateway P-6860FX for months, on and off. FWIW, these kexts worked but part of my problem was that I wasn't installing them properly. This might seem obvious to those of you who are all smart and stuff :) but for the rest of us be sure to follow these instructions for installing these kexts: http://insanelymac.blogspot.com/2008/09/ho...e-on-osx86.html

Also, I booted up with the -f option to be sure it read the new kexts, although I don't know if that's necessary.

Hooray! Thanks! Now I can finally ditch Vista!

  • 2 months later...

Just started messing around with installing IPC 10.5.6 today.

Very easy and mostly everything works. Got the urge after checking out the new 27" imac with parallels. That display is gorgeous and probably the only thing I'm missing.

If anyone's interested here's how I did it and what options I chose.

Started with the final version of iPC 10.5.6

Didn't use my windows hd but rather had a 320gb laying around so I installed that in the 2nd bay.

Inserted the DVD and once it started reading the DVD pressed F8 and typed

cpus=1 -v (not sure if this is necessary but did it just in case)

Once you get to the main screen go to disk utilities and chose the journal-ed option. Type a name and erase.

Now for the options.

Video - NVINJECT 512mb

Chipset - Intelchx Sata

Wireless - haven't figured it out but I'm using Ethernet

Ethernet - Realtek R1000

ACPI Fix

PS2 Keyboard

Apple SMBIOS TOH

Kexthelper

Pasifist

OSX X86 tools

Get the Audio kexts from a few posts above and drag them to the kexthelper. Type in your password and install. Reboot once it's done and you'll have audio.

And that's it. I'm using an external monitor, keyboard and mouse so I'm not sure how it acts with just the laptop. Will update once I'm more familiar with this stuff.

Oh yeah and remember if you want to run Parallels update your bios to the latest one. Has the VT option in there.
