Tezz Dhar
Install Leopard osx 10.5.6 on Toshiba Satellite M300. (SubModel : PSMDOG-02500P) I couldn't find this laptop in HCL neither in forum discussions. Bought it on Feb 2009 . Successfully installed it after multiple attempts so, thought of writing a guide for it. This is my first experience with osx Here are my experiences with the Some Os'es in my Laptop In short: Vista : bored of Vista's sluggishness but appreciate its stability. Happy beacuse all the drivers are preloaded and needn't to tear my hairs for drivers (as done for XP) WinXp : installed but some driver conflicts caused Blue screen of Death (Avg 2wice in a week). Ubuntu: experience was very nice but the only prob was they keep on updating/patching in every month & every 3months major release. Moreover, basic CD comes with vanilla flavour(All essential softwares you have to download). So, unless u have a heavy net backup you are in a distant Island without knowing how to swim. Leopard: Installed Yesterday (You won't like migrationg back to any other os.) But Vista has to be there as All the major softwares are created for windows so, did a dual boot Vista and Leoprd 10.5.6. Stunning graphics and performance. Things move like ice sliding over metal.I'm loving it. Tools Required: 1) To know the exact hardware use excellent freeware utility cpuz. 2) For Partitioning I used Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 as my partitions were reported falsely by Windows Vista Partitioner/Other partition utilities.(Very dangerous & mostly it does ). 3) iAtkos 5i DVD. (grab it from torrent sites) 4) Easy BCD Freeware (Installable in Windows) 5) Vista boot DVD to restore boot screen 6) Excellent Bootloader Chameleon (Only after installation of Leopard) My Hardware Configuration : CPU Arch : 1 CPU - 2 Cores - 2 Threads CPU PSN : Intel Core2 Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83GHz CPU EXT : MMX SSE SSE2 SSE3 SSSE3 EM64T MB Brand : TOSHIBA MB Model : Satellite M300 NB : Intel GM965 rev C0 SB : Intel 82801HBM (ICH8-ME) rev B1 RAM : 3072 MB DDR2 Dual Channel RAM Speed : FSB-667 MHz Addititonal: Graphics: Intel GMA 3100 HardDisk : 160GB Drive : DVD Writer Mouse: USB KeyBoard:PS2 (Inbuilt Laptop) Wireless(Purchased Separately): Netgear WG111v3 (USB WiFi) 800 Rs approx Wireless(Inbuilt): Intel 3945ABG Audio: Connexant 221 High Defination Smart Audio Speakers: Harman/Kardon Webcam: Chicony USB 2.0 Camera Lan Card What is working: 1) GMA X3100 Graphics Working Fully. 2) Quartz/GL Working Fully. 3) OpenGL Engine activated via EFI String 4) Volume Control woking. 5) Serial-ATA Hddisk Full Speed. 6) USB Wifi WG111v3 7) Power Off Buttons 8) Keyboard/Mouse (Ps2/USB) 9) Hardware RAID 10) AC Power/Battery Features 11) Resolution:1280 x 800 / 32bit 12)Audio working : Speakers (Device ID: 0x1179FF50) 13) Firewire: 400Mb/sec 14) Disk burning 15) Full USB What I have not tested until now: (Requires some research/modifications but fix is available): 1) Some keybard shortcuts: (Like mute, play buttons) 2)Headphone Jack (I was using a kext where headphone and speakers both were working successfully after first successfull installation 10.5.5, I have to try the same here). 3)Inbuilt Wireless Card is not working with the driver available at Intel 3945ABG. 4)Bluetooth. (Didn't have time to test it) 5)Lan: I didnt check it but i believe its working Not working at all ) 1) Webcam 2) WiFi Card 3945ABG Installation Steps: (Refer: iATKOS wiki & insanelymac for further clarifications) 1) Back up your Harddisk Data (The most important step. I personally accidently lost 2 partitions because of wrong partition information shown by Vista. You have nobody to blame if data is lost afterward's. 2) Create New PRIMARY PARTITION (Example:- I Formatted D: drive to NTFS and checked it to be primary. From the DVD diskutil i can erase NTFS partition ) 3) The choice is up to you to make the partition ACTIVE (default Not Active as we want Vista to boot up). 4)BIOS settings: a) Turn the SATA controller to COMPATIBLE mode (turning to AHCI even vista dosent boot Blue Screen of Death). Change the boot priority to boot from DVD drive first. c) Change the no of processor cores to 2 (Some DVD's require it to change to 1 if DVD booting fails luckily it worked for me). 5) Insert the iATKOS 5i DVD (basically its Leopard 10.5.5 ) and boot from it. Dont worry it'll take some time to boot up. 6) From the Disk utility Erase the partition (that you prepared for Leopard) 7) Follow onscreen instructions. 6) IMPORTANT: before installation press customize the packages Below is what I selected iATKOS Main System Bootloader > PC_EFI V9 x86 Patches > Decrypters > Apple Decrypt x86 Patches > SMBIOS Drives > SMBIOS Enablers > SMBIOS-EFI x86 Patches > Kernel 9.5.0 Kernel Voodoo x86 Patches > ACPI > Stock ACPI modified x86 Patches > Disabler.kext x86 Patches > Remove power management kext x86 Patches > PS/2 x86 Patches > OHR x86 Patches > remove thermal kext Drivers > VGA > Intel > X3100 Drivers > VGA > Intel > EFI string for intel System > SATA/IDE > Intel SATA System > SATA/IDE > Intel AHCI SATA System > Speedstep > Intel speedstep a System > laptop battery System > NTFS-3G 7) Let the installation complete and reboot the machine. Opps what happened I lost my boot screen i cannot boot now Restore Vista boot screen: 8) Plugin vista boot DVD & boot into recovery mode (automatic recovery failed for me) Open command prompt: > diskpart > list disk > select disk n (n = disk number) > list partition > select partition n (n = partition number of your VISTA) > active > exit 9) Reboot Wohhoo!! i got my screen back 10) Install EasyBCD in Vista and enable booting from all the drives (dont exactly remember the option Please, google it out) 11) Reboot and select Lopard drive to boot Congratulations !! You Have successfully installed Leopard. Post Installation Steps: 1) Installed the driver for WG 111v3 to enable wireless. 2) Install Chameleon Excellent boot loader. More to come : - Applications. - Necessary utilities - Upgrade to 10.5.6 combo update. - My heartly thanks to Jas, iATKOS, pcwiz and all memebers of this community for spreading knowledge and personal efforts Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/164611-step-by-step-install-leopard-1056-on-toshiba-satellite-m300-psmdog-02500p/ Share on other sites
