I have a new HP d5100t system that I'd like to install OSX on, perhaps with a dual boot, but we'll get there. Right now I can't get the installer to open. When booting from the disk, I do get to the Darwin boot menu, and can get it as far as the Apple logo before my machine restarts. Not to be confused with the stalling on the Apple screen with a Unavailable logo issue, I see a logo for maybe half a second, and it restarts. Nothing I can manage to do with the Darwin menu options seems to have an effect.

I am posting here after seeing the same result from both an iATKOS and Kalway disk. Though this is my first post, I have been reading up on this for a while in preparation. However, if I missed something obvious, or there's a old post that a user can direct me to, I'd be grateful.

So, what I have in front of me are Kalyway and iATKOS 10.5.1 disks on DVD+Rs. Under the hood I have Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz and 8 gigs of RAM. I have an NVIDIA Geforce 9800 GT graphics card, and do see that NVIDIA can cause problems, but those seem to be further down the road from the installation. Thanks for your help!

At the Darwin menu hit F8 to get to the prompt before the timer runs out and type -v then hit enter. This will put it in verbose mode so you can see where it gets stuck. If it hangs on the graphics card (nvdisresman.kext - not the right name but close enough!) then reboot with -v -x this time and if this gets you to the desktop, your graphics cards the problem. Your 9800 gt should work fine.

If it tells you its waiting for root device and doesnt go any further after 5 minutes, then you need chipset drivers for your motherboard.

interms of distrubution, use either kalyway 10.5.2 (more polished and stable then kalyway 10.5.1) or i would highly reccomend iPC X-L from pcwiz. Awesome distribution.
