X86 asker
Hi, I have windows xp and i have installed Ubuntu on my external hdd. Windows is running on my Laptop hard disk drive. Now, i need to get my external hdd to boot up linux or windows. That's not cool for me because sometimes I don't have it with me. I want to know A safe way to remove the GRUB loader and Ubuntu completly to keep only Windows and Hackintosh. I have 3 partitions on my external hdd one for my data of 211 gb, one of 10 gb for linux (ext3) and one for Linux swap of 1 gb. I want to get these Ubuntu partitions as unallocated space. Ps: I can't see Ubuntu ext3 and swap in My computer. Thank you for helping me in this problem because i don't like the GRUB loader... Alessandro17
This is the easiest and safest way: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058 (Option 2: Starting the Windows Recovery Console from the Windows XP CD-ROM) Once you have done what described in that tutorial, type: fixmbr fixboot You'll get some pretty scary warnings, but don't worry, you'll be OK. Once you have done that, use any partitioning software to delete your linux partitions: http://www.thefreecountry.com/utilities/pa...oneditors.shtml I also recommend Parted Magic, a very nice Linux LiveCD for partitioning and much more, which could even change your mind about Linux after that POS you have tried: http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=05409 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/162958-how-to-uninstall-linux/#findComment-1138315 Share on other sites
X86 asker
I will probably do this but are you sure that we can't uninstall it with the linux live cd? Thank's a lot Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/162958-how-to-uninstall-linux/#findComment-1138337 Share on other sites

Thank's a lot Maybe you could, but it is easier and safer to use a Windows XP CD. X86 asker
Your right but i will make a backup of my backups before doing this. Linux is installed on an external hdd as you know. I have tried some explorers that can see linux files on windows but they are not working for me. I see a guy showing the uninstallation of linux on windows with a file on linux ext3. Thank you Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/162958-how-to-uninstall-linux/#findComment-1138806 Share on other sites
Alessandro17
The best way to make a backup of your data in a linux partition, is moving it to a FAT32 partition from inside Linux. You can either use a Linux LiveCD or your Ubuntu install, if it is still working.
