djanim8
I've been trying to get OSX86 installed for a while now, and have done all I think I can do with all the internet searches I've done. So I'm hoping to get some help here.. was hoping I wouldn't have to bug everyone with questions... but.... OK I've gotten iPc X-DL 10.5.6 Live DVD and installed it to a separate IDE drive (Vista on a SATA, OSX86 on the IDE drive). Its installed, and I've tried serveral kexts to get it to run, but it ALWAYS tells me that I have to reboot by holding down the power button.... I'm totally unsure of how this works or what to do and have been trying to figure it out on my own. Can someone help me? see if I'm doing something wrong? Let me know what kexts I need to use? Here is my system info (posted a bunch because I have NO idea what is needed to figure what I need or what might be causing the issues): Dell XPS720 running Windows Vista Home Premium SATA holds the Windows OS 400 GB IDE is the destination for the MacOSX86 Video: NVIDIA 512mb GeForce 8800 GT 2 22" widescreen Westinghouse montors On-board Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller On-board Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller On-board HD Audio Device AND Creative SB X-Fi (using the onboard HD audio controller) Using a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse set (USB) Use a WACOM tablet (but isn't always hooked up, and never while trying to install or run OSX86) Have an Epson Photo R300 attached Canon Canoscan N670U scanner attached Internal DVD+- RW (PBDS) Internal CDRW/DVD TS-H493B Processors Information ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Processor 1 (ID = 0) Number of cores 4 (max 4) Number of threads 4 (max 4) Name Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Codename Kentsfield Specification Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz Package Socket 775 LGA (platform ID = 4h) CPUID 6.F.B Extended CPUID 6.F Core Stepping G0 Technology 65 nm Core Speed 1600.4 MHz (6.0 x 266.7 MHz) Rated Bus speed 1066.9 MHz Stock frequency 2400 MHz Instructions sets MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, EM64T L1 Data cache 4 x 32 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64-byte line size L1 Instruction cache 4 x 32 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64-byte line size L2 cache 2 x 4096 KBytes, 16-way set associative, 64-byte line size FID/VID Control yes FID range 6.0x - 9.0x max VID 1.300 V Features XD, VT Chipset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Northbridge NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI SPP rev. djanim8
any reason why it won't let me boot into it? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/161777-install-help-on-dell-xps-720/#findComment-1132097 Share on other sites
Beerkex'd
Tap F8 while booting to get to the boot prompt. Then type cpus=1 -v -f there and press return. If it crashes take a photo of the screen and attach it here. djanim8
Thanks for the response. I didn't get the "You need to reboot" message again, but all I got was a blue screen, and nothing else... Beerkex'd
Plug your monitor into the other output. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/161777-install-help-on-dell-xps-720/#findComment-1132131 Share on other sites
djanim8
Plug your monitor into the other output. I don't really get that... the 8800 GT is a dual monitor card, but I have 2 monitors hooked up, so switching them I don't think will do anything will it? Beerkex'd
I didn't see you have two monitors. Try with only one monitor plugged in - try both outputs, but only one at a time. If you have anything plugged in to the TV-Out, unplug it. --- If that doesn't work, only then try: cpus=1 -v -x with a little luck that should boot into safe mode. From there you can work on getting your video card correctly installed - I'm pretty sure that's your problem. I ran the cpus=1 -v -x with both monitors plugged in, and got a GREY screen this time, and the mouse, but nothing else.... Beerkex'd
Except trying another video card - or the iPC 10.5.6 final DVD - I'm out of ideas on this one. Good luck. djanim8
well... I decided to just go ahead and try to install it again, did it, picked some kexts that were different and it worked. but I guess I didn't pick the right ethernet and sound kexts... so how can I change them now that I'm in OSX86? Beerkex'd
You can search for them on the forum - or you can extract them from your install DVD with a program called Pacifist. It's probably better to do some searching first and see what others with similar hardware have done. Or go browse the genius bar: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showforum=45 Then install them with kexthelper or OSX86Tools.
