I've been trying to get OSX86 installed for a while now, and have done all I think I can do with all the internet searches I've done.

So I'm hoping to get some help here.. was hoping I wouldn't have to bug everyone with questions... but....

OK I've gotten iPc X-DL 10.5.6 Live DVD and installed it to a separate IDE drive (Vista on a SATA, OSX86 on the IDE drive). Its installed, and I've tried serveral kexts to get it to run, but it ALWAYS tells me that I have to reboot by holding down the power button....

I'm totally unsure of how this works or what to do and have been trying to figure it out on my own. Can someone help me? see if I'm doing something wrong? Let me know what kexts I need to use?

Here is my system info (posted a bunch because I have NO idea what is needed to figure what I need or what might be causing the issues):

Dell XPS720 running Windows Vista Home Premium

SATA holds the Windows OS

400 GB IDE is the destination for the MacOSX86

On-board Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller

Using a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse set (USB)

Use a WACOM tablet (but isn't always hooked up, and never while trying to install or run OSX86)

Have an Epson Photo R300 attached

Canon Canoscan N670U scanner attached

Internal DVD+- RW (PBDS)

Internal CDRW/DVD TS-H493B

I didn't see you have two monitors.

Try with only one monitor plugged in - try both outputs, but only one at a time.

If you have anything plugged in to the TV-Out, unplug it.

---

If that doesn't work, only then try:

cpus=1 -v -x with a little luck that should boot into safe mode.

From there you can work on getting your video card correctly installed - I'm pretty sure that's your problem.

great thanks I'll try that and get back to here...

well I tried one monitor, in either of the DVI outputs... and just black screens.

I ran the cpus=1 -v -x with both monitors plugged in, and got a GREY screen this time, and the mouse, but nothing else....

well... I decided to just go ahead and try to install it again, did it, picked some kexts that were different and it worked.

but I guess I didn't pick the right ethernet and sound kexts... so how can I change them now that I'm in OSX86?

You can search for them on the forum - or you can extract them from your install DVD with a program called Pacifist.

It's probably better to do some searching first and see what others with similar hardware have done.

Or go browse the genius bar: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showforum=45

Then install them with kexthelper or OSX86Tools.

I feel your pain!! i have a dell xps710 and i have i.p.c 10.5.6 installed works really well except.. no audio , no ethernet and no firewire.

No matter what I try nothing works.. However for Audio check out this http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=34075

the USB Turtle beach audio advantage looks promising!

... Does your firewire work if so what did you do to get it working? I want to use the computer for video editing and I desperately need the firewire for this

Many thanks!
