themorninghate
Hey all, So I am about to attempet to put osx on my PC. my hardware as follows. q8200 P5Q3 4gb Team DDR3 WD SATA 320GB (c: is here as is a 60gb partition for osx86) Seagate SATA 500GB Using iDeneb v1.4 I am planning on following Juzzi's install guide here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=136586 I am wondering, why is it necessary to flash the BIOS? What does it add? will it remove anything? can i revert to old BIOS? void warranty? etc. Not sure if i want to do that is all... I also dont fully understand what chameleon is and what it does etc. any care to fill me in? Lastly, I want to use the retail install of osx. I have ideneb 1.4 which is 10.5.6(i believe) and I have an old copy of osx: APPLE.MAC.OSX.LEOPARD.V10.5.ISO-OSX filename: osx-leopard105.dmg size: 6.66gb will this, possibly very old version do for a retail install or do i need 10.5.4? Thanks! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/161702-i-am-about-to-take-the-plunge/ Share on other sites

themorninghate
so i followed the instructions as bet I can. I got iDeneb to install all the way to like 99% where it said eta was "about a minite" and it hung there for like half an hour. when i power off and reboot the bootloader appears and if it loads mac the grey screen comes up and then eventually goes black. anyone got ideas? Beerkex'd
10.5.6 cannot boot on P5Q series boards if the CPU aliases haven't been removed from the DSDT table. That's what the patched BIOS does. If you don't want to flash with a patched BIOS you can use a DSDT patch instead. Search the forums if you want to know more. There's another excellent P5Q series thread here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=137296 And the P45 chipset thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=112033 Koalala's DSDT patcher thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=142434 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/161702-i-am-about-to-take-the-plunge/#findComment-1132172 Share on other sites
