Hello,

New here to all this. I just ordered a Dell 820 Latitude, the cpu is a T2600 (2.16GHz Dual) L2 Cache 667MHz FSB, 2GB ram, 100gb HD, 256MB NVIDIA® Quadro NVS 110M TurboCache.

How well will this thing run OSX? Anyone out there with experience running OSX on a dual core laptop?

Opinions? Suggestions?

I'm a tech guy but new to this OSX on i386 stuff.

Thanks!

Derek

It should run very nicely on there. That is a CoreDuo chip (just like in the new Macs) and has GMA950 graphics, which are 100% supported (as that is what is in a Mac mini).

edit: I just noticed you ordered it with the Nvidia card. Too bad, since you won't get anything beyond basic graphics in OS X with that.

I've got 10.4.6 running pretty well on an 820 with the Intel GMA 945 graphics. QE and CI are supported along with all the resolutions up to 1920x1200x32!!!

I had to disable Dual Core in the BIOS to get 10.4.4, 10.4.5 and 10.4.6 to work.

The downside is there is no audio and there seems to be no hope for it in the forums as far as I can tell.

The Dell 1490 dual band wireless card works during intial setup on first boot as far as listing and aquiring available WLAN's but is only half-present following setup. Following setup, WIFI indicator lights as the Airport driver loads fine and I get the Airport indicator up in the menubar but I can't configure Airport properties as it's not a listed device in network config.

Very weird.

Other than that this laptop smokes under XP and OSX and the TPM support and fingerprint scanner are cool . . .
