Lanceomni
Welcome to InsanelyMac! Ideally you should boot in Verbose Mode until you have your machine running the way you want. This can be done by using the -v boot-flag. When you start the computer up you will see the Darwin bootloader screen. This screen will count down and by pressing the requested key will give you a prompt to enter these boot-options. Now instead of getting a gray screen with Apple logo, you will get useful information about the boot process and see at which line it hangs on. You can place system specs in your "Signature". It will then appear on every post you make. This can be done via My Controls: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...rCP&CODE=00 Please follow the rules described in this thread (Most importantly keeping your signature to no more than 5 lines of normal text: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...p;hl=signatures Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/160622-help-with-my-dell-inspiron-e1705/#findComment-1124723 Share on other sites

Lanceomni
i tried what you recomended but i only get what in the pic below and it freezes here 1. Go into your BIOS and see if there is an option to change your SATA Mode from AHCI to IDE. 2. Try booting again with -x -v -f platform=X86PC If you have the standard graphics option for this laptop (Intel 950) then you should be okay but if you upgraded to the Nvidia or ATI option you may have trouble getting full support for your graphics card. If you dont have the intel graphics card you may want to do some research to make sure that yours is compatible. This is unrelated to your current problem but not getting full QE/CI hardware support for your graphics card will prevent you from running certain programs.
