Perhaps a faulty install image. Try to get ideneb 10.5.5 if you can. 10.5.6 isn't recomended yet because they havn't fully got all the bugs sorted out yet.

Anyone else having problems or success? Please post your results.

Try booting with -v -f. That should force it to start. If that doesn't work get a virtual drive program like daemon tools, mount the ideneb image to that and set vmware to read the daemon drive.

Same screen as before for both of your suggestions.

Hmm thats strange. I set this up on a friends asus laptop thats pretty much the same as yours and it worked fine. Maybe try actually installing it so you have a dual boot system. All you have to do is shrink your windows partition, install osx to the new partition you made, then download and install the newest release of chameleon boot loader (i think its 2.0 rc1 or something). That will make selecting which os you want to boot really simple because the new chameleon boot loader has a gui interface. Very nice :D
