webmanny.com Posted April 1, 2009 Share Posted April 1, 2009 Hello Team, I am new to the OSx86 world, but I have been wanting to do this for many months now. I currently own a Compaq AMD 64 bits laptop running on a 120 HDD with 4GB of DDR2 ram. Yesterday I downloaded Iatkos v4a for AMD processors and decided to give this a try. I quickly discovered that I'm not as smart as I make myself believe. I did the following steps: 1- Press F8 during the timer 2- Enter -v then hit enter 3- Wait for the computer to do its thing and get to the "Click the button to continue" screen 4- Go to "Utilities" then "Disk Manager" or whatever the name is. 5- After a quick search done by the application, I come up empty. No HDD, no volumes. However, I played a bit with my Boot menu and got an external HDD I own hooked up to the laptop. This is when it get interesting... I was able to install OSX86 in that external HDD. I get the "desktop" and everything. Well... almost everything. My network doesn't work, but everything else does. So I'm not that dumb. Right? Don't answer... So my problem is... I don't want to haul around my portable drive with my laptop all the time. Is there something I can do to get the OS to see my internal HDD? Also, I never get to the screen where you chose the drivers as shown on the screen shot attached. Is there something I'm doing wrong and could that fix my network issues? Because I can't get my wireless or my NIC card to work with my current install on my external HDD. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I know it is hard to teach the dumb people, but right now "I'm a PC" and I would like to make the transition to "I'm a MAC" and for that, I will need your help. Stupid joke... I know. I was able to get past me being stupid and found the customize section where I can select the drivers I want to use. Since you now know what kind of computer I own. Could you help me select the correct ones from the list of network drivers so I can use my NIC card or the Air Port? As I mentioned before I was able to install it on my external drive, but even when I select what I think is the correct driver, I'm not able to go online. Before I go... Initially install without selecting a video, network and audio driver.......just focus on getting a basic OS X system up and running.......the video, network and audio drivers can be installed afterwards..... F8 and then -s and although I get the same error as on the pictures, I now get a nice apple logo as a background. I'll try a better picture now so you can read the error code. I'm booting from the install DVD. I may have gotten a bad copy of it? Could you tell me how to install the proper drivers for the air card and the network card so that I can at least use it with the external HDD? While I'm on the subject of the external source. Do you know if this OS or any of the other versions you mentioned before can be installed in a jusp drive? I tried doing it yesterday, but got an error as I was starting the install. I was able to format, but the install failed. I can send you screen shots if needed. I'm just looking for ways to get to the goal without having to break the record on how long it took to finish. For Ethernet go here for nForceLAN_0.62.13.pkg.zip which you can download via Windows and unzip in OS X.......and I have finally found a thread for you to read for other pointers..... I don't think I understand enough to give it a try. I think I'll wait for a dumb down version that I can follow. If you find yourself with some free time on your hands and want to create a for Noobs version of that. I'll give it a try. Thanks again for all your help. I'll keep hauling around my external HDD until I get tired and reformat. So far I like OSX so I'll give it a fair shot. I have my ethernet driver working, but I can't get a working graphics driver. Every one that I try (NVinject, Macvidia, etc...) makes the computer stop booting and freeze saying that I need to restart. According to Windows, I have a GeForce 7000M or nForce 610M (it listed both). What are the numbers for that? Edit: I tried to put in the 128MB numbers, and it wouldn't let me put in the brackets (<,>).
