Hey Guys!

Im trying to install Vista (32bit and 64bit) on the same HD as OSX (Kalyway 10.5.2) is installed on but on another partition. But when I trying to select a partition it always says

"Windows cannot be installed to this disc. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."

Im guessing that this has something to do with the GUID partitioning...

Can anybody help me out here?

I assume you tried formatting the partition as MS-DOS (FAT) via Disk Utility and it made no difference?.......Vista is expecting the volume to be partitioned as Master Boot Record (MBR).....see here......

I guess with a GPT partitioned volume you cannot boot Windows from it unless you have a machine with an EFI BIOS.....with a standard PC BIOS, the Windows boot volume must be an MBR primary partition.....

...ok... so that would mean I would have to install Vista on a nother harddrive right!?

Preferably that......as I have done for each OS.......or repartition the HDD as MBR and then format into HFS+ and MS-DOS FAT volumes for OS X and Vista respectively.......personally I use MBR because it appears better suited to multi-boot systems and most users than GPT........resising volumes is the GPT's functional advantage....but I use iPartition for resizing anyhow.......

Hey, I sure can.... I spent 5 hours trying to figure out the same thing. I was making 200GB FAT and NTFS partitions, then attempting to install Vista 64 to them, and getting the same error message as you, about them being GPT partitions.

As it turns out: "Mac OS X doesn't manage FAT32 volumes of more than 137GB" (http://www.macdisk.com/hugdsken.php It's the 3rd section under 'Disk Format Size and Limitations under Mac OS) so I then deleted the partition remade a 120GB NTFS partition using Paragon Soft's disk utility (http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/), and it worked like a charm...

I think you can also make a (smaller that 137GB) FAT32 partition if you don't have Paragon Soft's program, then when you boot from the Vista install DVD, just reformat it to NTFS when you select the volume in the Vista install process.

hope that helps!
