Hi All,

I am a total newbie with OSX but, a brave one. I wanted to post some results of a install I did yesterday.

I used the following hardware;

ComboZ Motherboard (Has socket 754 and 939)

1 GB DDR400

Opteron 170 (Dual Core socket 939 OC'ed to 2.4 Ghz)

spare 40 gig drive

Sony Dual Layer DVD Burner

PCI Ethernet (generic)

What I've found is that I needed to disable the 2nd core in bios in order to install 10.4.5 (already patched with Maxxuss). Once I disabled the 2nd core, the install proceeded, very slowly. This took about an hour and 15 minutes.

After the install I rebooted, checked the system devices and found I had no sound (Still working on this one). The built in sound and ethernet do not work. The remainder of the devices do. The nvidia 5700ultra was locked to 1024x768 until I downloaded and installed the macvidia beta one drivers. Now I can chage resolutions however, CI and QE do not work as of yet.

I'm posting this message to thank everyone here that has ever posted a bit of news on how to make something work, tips for getting other devices to work and general support from the community. Thanks to all of you, I am now running OSX on generic PC hardware and am surprised at how stable this is.

I would like to also note that enabling the second core does cause slow down. The system gets the "Jitters" and acts rather funky. Disabling the second core seems to do the trick, although I would love to see the performance increase if I can figure a way to get the second core to work right.

Thanks to everyone!

Yay! Glad you got it working! :)

About the QE & CI: They will not work until MacVidia release another driver with Hardware Acceleration support. I am also running the same driver, and I have the ability to change resolutions and refresh rates only.

About the Built-In Audio: Go here and follow this guide: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Audio It works perfectly for my motherboard's Built-In Audio.

I don't know anything you can do for your NIC Card, except from buy a well-known compatible one (that's what I did). I have the 3Com 905C-TX NIC card, which I confirm works on 10.4.1/3/4/5 and I have yet to try it on .6

:)

EDIT: Here are some 3rd Party Drivers which may work for your NIC card, if it fits under the models mentioned: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...vers#Networking
