I've been able to get Leopard onto an 8GB stick by using the restore option from Disk Utility. I've also installed Chameleon onto the stick and used the OSX86 tools to install the Darwin Bootloader "No EFI (Darwin bootloader)" but when I start up the install, it kernal panics almost immediately. If I boot using my boot-132 cd (with all of my mobo kexts), the USB install stick works like a charm.

So my question is, how do I cut out the need for a boot-132 CD to get my Leopard install working from the stick? I need to add kexts/boot.plist strings to the boot sector of the USB stick. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I use OSx86Tools to install PC_EFI v8 onto a 8G MBR/HFS+ formatted USB stick, and the use Disk Utility restore to load the OS X .iso file onto the stick BUT NOT checking "Erase destination"......

How do you get your kexts in there?

I have installed the complete iPC 10.5.6 .iso file just as you would burn to a DVD.......if you need to add additional kexts to help boot the installer on your system, I would simply plug the stick into a working Intel OS X or OSx86 machine and use KextUtility v2.2 to extract the files from the iPC 10.5.6 mkext file into an Extensions folder that I would place inside System/Library and add any additional kexts inside the Extensions folder.....

Ahh then that's the problem, I'm trying to do a Vanilla install using my retail OS X Leopard DVD, I don't use iatkos or ideneb or any release like that...

If you show hidden/system files using TinkerTool, you will see that the OS X Retail Install DVD has a System/Library/Extensions folder already......

Cool thank you. I see it now. One last question: if I put an Extension.mkext on the retail DVD (usb stick), will that get carried over to my retail install? I'd rather it not, trying to keep the system as clean as possible. Thank you very much for your help!

If you look in /S/L/E/ on the Retail OS X DVD that you restored onto the USB stick you will see that it has an Extensions.mkext file. You could

1. Rename it as Extensions.mkext.orig and move the original Extensions folder out of /S/L/....

2. Extract the Extensions.mkext file into a new Extensions Folder.....add any additional kexts.....make a new Extensions.mkext file......place both in /S/L/....

3. After installation on your HDD you can choose which Extensions folder to put on your HDD.....

Okay awesome....so basically, if I have my own Extensions.mkext, I'd have to combine the contents of it with the Extensions.mkext from the orig DVD. I also need to backup both my /S/L/E and /S/L/Extensions.mkext and create a new extensions folder with my extensions + the original ones. Sounds very doable. Thank you very much!
