My initial install of Jas' 10.4.6 disk worked well, but I couldn't live with 1024x768 on my 20" 1680*1050 screen. So I played around with different video cards. It all went horribly wrong when I installed the MacVidia drivers and tried a GeForce MX420 64mb. 1680*1050 wasn't in the list, only 1680*1280 so i tried this and had what looks like a horizonal-sync problem (but of course wasn't sync problem because I'm on an LCD screen.)

I went back to an ATI card, and the system started OK with VESA driver, but since then it won't boot. I get very slow boot progress, with much time spent on the blue background with swirly logo. Eventually this changes to blue background with mouse cursor.

I am not able to use F8 to enter bootup parameters - I never see the black Darwin x86 text that I should. I wonder if this is something to do with me using Acronis Boot Loader to start the operating system?

can anybody help?

The card I just tried was a Rage 128 Ultra, which previously worked with VESA. it is a single output card. I am trying the Radeon 9250 which also worked before. This is a dual-head card, although looking at the wiring (cheap card, DB15 on a ribbon cable) I suspect the DB15 just runs straight off of the same output as the DVI.

thanks!

I have tried switching to PS2 for the keyboard, still no luck.

OK. From the installer terminal, I mounted my main partition with mount_hfs, and I basically went through steps 15 and 16 of the MacVidia installation guide (which was to delete Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext, and then delete any saved display-resolution preferences). I can now boot properly again with the ATI card (9250 128mb).

Oh how I'd love to be able to use 1680*1050.

I'd gladly buy this O/S from Apple for my PC..
