kristols
Hello! I have more or less successfully installed iAtkos 10.5.5 on my Toshiba U300-11z (1.6 ghz Core2Duo, 4gb ram). After reading tons of posts here on the forum, I have concluded that I am one of the lucky ones to actually get the GMA x3100 graphics card to work with QE/CI, both internal and external monitor! It actually worked ootb:) Mirror mode dosen´t work though, I can live with that! My problem is of a different kind: Video memory! When running Windows (XP or Vista, dosen´t matter) the card is able to utilize 384 mb shared video memory. In OS X it can only use 144mb ram. I have a Matrox Triple head 2 go Digital Edition with 2x ViewSonic 19" monitors, which works brilliantly under Windows @ native res: 2x 1080x1024. Due to the lack of VRAM in OSX, it only supports 2x1024x768, which looks...you know! NOT GOOD;) The low amount of VRAM allocated by OSX seems to be a some sort of "under-clocking" done by Apple in the AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext (we could start a discussion about why they have done this, but that would take place under another topic;) ). Is there any way to make use of all the 384mb VRAM on my GMA x3100 card? I´ve used nano to examine the Info.plist file in all AppleIntelGMAX3100* files, unable to find any clues regarding to memory allocation..:/ Is it possible to use all VRAM, or am I chasing a useless dream? Thanx in advance from Norway, kristolz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/159788-gmax3100-possible-to-make-use-of-all-vram/ Share on other sites
drumthrasher109
I would like to know as well. Simple things, like flowing through the dock, minimizing windows, etc, is kind of sluggish.
