EricM
Ok so I realized I need to have xp on my computer. But the problem is I've already installed kalyway and have been using it for a couple months now. I'm almost positive I'm using a GUID-formatted drive. Is there any possible way to install xp now and dual boot without having to wipe my kalyway install? Thanks! -Eric Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/159727-dual-boot/ Share on other sites

Nohimn
I've had a dual boot system set up back in September, before my motherboard died (someone knocked out a piece of the case, which rested on the board causing a short). I'm on this board because I've FINALLY gotten a new mobo, but it's an nForce 7, which is not an easy install as compared to my last install. Back then, I had it dual booting Leopard 10.5.4 (iatkos 4.0i) and Linux (Fedora 9) on a GUID formatted hard drive. So all I can confirm is that linux will run with a GUID partition table. So, if you discover you're completely unable to put Windows XP on a GUID partitioned hard drive, and you don't want to put out the extra $$ to buy a second HD and dual-boot that way, you could always try virtualization via Linux. Install your favorite Linux distro (if you're new to the linux game, I recommend Ubuntu. There's a LOT of documentation out there on how to fix pretty much any problem you can encounter on that distro, and it's usually clean right out of the box), and run a virtualization software, like VMWare or VirtualBox. From what I can tell, people prefer VirtualBox (my buddies at work have it running on their Macs so they can run Windows on top of it.) http://www.sun.com/software/products/virtualbox/index.jsp Or, of course, you can try the VirtualBox Fusion and run it on your hackintosh. It's free software, and it doesn't hurt to give it a shot. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/159727-dual-boot/#findComment-1119212 Share on other sites
EricM
Well I was mostly wondering if I could still install xp without wiping my kalyway install. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/159727-dual-boot/#findComment-1119809 Share on other sites
redmonke255
Use a partition editor (I think there's one in os x?) and make a new NTFS partition for windows, then install windows on that partition. EricM
Do you recommend any application to do that? And how would I access that partition. (I've never dual-booted before) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/159727-dual-boot/#findComment-1119844 Share on other sites
redmonke255
Well, when I first dual booted, I was using vista and Ubuntu. Ubuntu is free to download from their website and you can make a live cd with it. All you do is insert that cd in, boot from the cd from your bios. It will then boot into a "temporary operating system" if you will, and then you simply go to the top left corner and go under system I think and then under administrator and select GPARTED (google will be your friend if you need help finding it. Shouldn't be hard to miss. ) That then allows you to edit your partitions. So you'll want to make a new partition and set it's type to NTFS for windows to install to. Hope that was enough info. verdant
Well I was mostly wondering if I could still install xp without wiping my kalyway install. If you have a GUID partition, then check here or check out iPartition.....
