WACOMalt
So I have 500GB Western Digital SATA drive that I am trying to reinstall leopard onto. So I go to disk utility in the installer (Kalyway 10.5.2), format it HFS+ journaled (or whatever it calls it) Choose my patches and install. With about 3 minutes left, the 500GB drive randomly disappears (I know this because if I choose to save the installer log, it is no longer listed in the drive choices) at the same time (as expected) the installation crashes/freezes (varying results each time I have tried) Usually giving a ton of CrashReport lines in the log. So, I put my 20GB IDE in my computer, and tried installing to that, it worked fine! Thinking I would outsmart it, I made a disk image of the 20GB using the DVD disk utility, and tried to restore that to the 500GB, it fails saying it can't unmount the disk. (Which is odd... it shouldn't be being used right?) So anyways, I am at an end-pass, it also seems that when running 10.5.2 off of the 20GB, the 500GB will still randomly disconnect about 15 minutes into using the system, and I get a warning about not properly ejecting the drive. My Power save setting are all set to Never, and the check-box to turn off drives is unchecked, so it's not that. I was thinking loose cord, but checked and all is well cord-wise, Checked around in my BIOS, but there are no settings for drive power save or anything. I have ran every test on the drive I can think of and it checks out fine... My System: ASUS P5LD2-VM Pentium D 2.66GHz NVidia 6800 XT (256mb) 4GB DDR2 Ram 500GB Western Digital SATA Drive 250GB Western Digital SATA Drive (for windows) 1TB Western Digital eSATA External Drive (for time machine and random storage) I still have all my Time Machine Backups from when I had a working 10.5.6 installation on the 500GB drive, but the Time Machine Restore option on the 10.5.2 Kalyway Install DVD doesn't work... It just freezes when you choose a time Machine drive. I have seen others with that problem with no solution. Help me out please if you can, I was in the middle of a ton of video work when my install went kaput. Had the projects backed up, but can't work on them now! I either need to be able to restore my system to the 500GB from my time machine backups (and hope it doesn't eject itself while running the system), or preferably find the root of the issue. BIOS setting maybe? I have no clue... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/159631-hard-drive-unmounts-itself-during-install-what/ Share on other sites
josephien
did you try with 2gb of ram instead of 4, some systems handle 4gb not so well Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/159631-hard-drive-unmounts-itself-during-install-what/#findComment-1118866 Share on other sites
