jross21
This week I finally spent the $400 on a used Apogee Duet so I could start recording 24bit/96. I also had to order a firewire card which I never needed until this week. When I got the duet everything was working alright until 10 minutes in, the headphone output(as well as the monitor outputs) started distorting like crazy - a digital distortion I must add. So now every 10 minutes or so it'll start distorting(no matter if I'm playing something in logic or itunes and regardless of bit rate etc.). Searching around google I've noticed that some people are having the same problem when using a firewire hub or when they have something else plugged into another firewire port. This isn't the case with me, I don't have anything else plugged in, yet it still happens - regularly. I can't have this as it is completely ruining my recordings as I can't monitor without fear of the terrible distortion kicking in. So I think it's a firewire issue... My question is: Is there anything on OS X that I can do to fix this problem? When I boot with -v it gives me one message about the model (saying max speed s400) and then further down is gives me a message something like "Firewire: cannot determine security mode, defaulting to full secure mode". I don't know if this is related or not. I'd like to be able to fix this from inside Leopard but I haven't seen anybody using modified kexts or anything. If I can't fix it I'm going to RMA it to newegg. Can anybody recommend card that works flawlessly with hackintoshes? This card I bought is here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16815158089 It's StarTech 2 Port PCI Express FireWire 400 Card Model PEX1394A2 I know TI chips work best, but I don't know how to tell if this is one. In sysprof it just says "Firewire bus" MOBO: Gigabyte EP35-DS3R Kalyway 10.5 (updated to 10.5.5) Thanks!
