xcode 3.1.2 won't install on kalyway 10.5.2 (vmware); error evaluating javascript

Title says it all, the installer gets to the hard drive screen and has an error message:

You cannot install Xcode Tools on this volume. There was an error while evaluating JavaScript for the package.

 

 

I have tried downloading xcode multiple times from Apple's site, but to no avail.

Hi would you be able to share the settings you used to create and install your vm machine ?

 

I can only get as far as the purple background screen right before the language selection would normally pop up.. the ball just spins forever.. cheers
