Ok so i have somewhat of a dilemma here. I have a choice of attempting to install leopard on 2 laptops but not sure which one will work best, if none of them will work, can u please suggest a very cheap laptop i can buy on ebay that works perfectly. I have done alot of research before posting, but i cant figure out which machine will give me the least problems. It seems like every single spec will give me trouble so i really dont know what to do. Can you recommend a mac os x build to use, the method and so on...I would also like to dual boot this and if that is not possible, then i would rather have it as native on the toshiba. Im sure somethings will not work but i would really like wifi to work if possible, that seems to be rare.

I am trying to get as much information as possible, i have searched many forums

Thank you

You can get it working with some trouble on either of them, probably, but GFX won't work as it's not supported. For more information search the forum: just type in your search term in google and add site:insanelymac.com

thanks the reply

does that mean my graphic card wont work? which then means there is no video?

Ok so you said both machines are pretty much equal in terms of the problem i will encounter. If that is the case i want to install os x on the toshiba since its older and if something goes wrong it wont hurt as bad.

Can you recommend a build and packages i might need to getting most thing working?

thank you

The X200 has some tricks - use this. x200 site:insanelymac.com

The graphics will work, but they won't be accelerated, and certain applications won't work. However OS X should run.

There are so many! I don't know what to recommend...

iPC, iAtkos, XxX, Jas, Zepyroth, Kalyway, just to name a few.

XxX Leopard seems really good.

hmm i was leaning towards ipc just because it seems like its more supported, but that is a lot of choice given to me. Is there anyway somebody can recommend one of those based on my specs with either laptops. I know i will have to find kext and drivers and im not sure if they work for all of those installations

so i attempted to install ipc osx86 on the toshiba but the dvd will not boot completely. It gets to the grey screen with the apple logo and it appears to be loading but it doesnt. The dvd does not spin as it should and then i get a circle with one line going through which suggests that it couldnt boot. what could be the problem? i know my computer is capable to booting into the dvd because it booted twice before but the next 10 or so attempts have failed. I dont think i changed any setting that may have affected it.

Also for the dv4 is it through that there would be no video once its installed because the intel 4500 mhd video card isnt supported? is there a way to fix the video if i am able to install it?

thanks

ipc osx86 didnt work so i tried iatkos 5i that one was able to instal but on startup it goes into the grey screen and never boots up. Can anyone tell me why this happened, i tried the installation teice changing some stuff and the same the happened. The installation was done on the toshiba. can anyone give me info on this?

thanks

  • 4 weeks later...

After many trial and errors, i have managed to install leopard on both the toshiba and the dv4 using ipc 10.5.6. The main problem i am facing now is getting sleep to work on both systems. I have read and tried a couple of solutions in some threads but non have worked for me. For example, i do not have the tick on the powersaver option, even after changing my applebios kext many times, and installing appleusbehci and ehcienabler does not seem to work either. I also tried replacing my iousbfamily.kext to 10.5.5, maybe mine was faulty? Is there anything else i can try?

- I have vanilla kernel on both systems as well and no graphic support on the systems which is fine.
