My computer stats are as follows:

4800+ AMD x2 processor

2gb ram

3xSATA HDD

120gb IDE HDD (Dedicated to OSX)

I tried installing 10.4.6 (JAS) and it didn't work. I installed through vmware. The system panics immidiately on the first line of the boot process.

I also tried installing 10.4.5/10.4.4 from a prepatched DVD. With this one ... i get the boot process identifying the boot volume, but as soon as it is read i get an I/O error on the disk.

Can someone please help?

as I mentioned before I can successfully install (JaS 10.4.6 with AMD enabler PPF included). But if I am trying to boot I get this message:

disk0s1 I/O error...keys out of order (4,1297)

I'm on Nforce 4 and I did install on an extra IDE hdd. I've googled around and the only hint was to install "diskwarrior" to solve the hdd-problem.

I would be very glad for any hints!

thanks in advance and best regards from berlin,

bumping this one last time ...

can someone how is running nforce4 ide please respond on how they got it working? what install disk, and what kext are you using?

Boot off install dvd. press f8, type rd=disk0s1 (or whatever partition is your root disk) and possibly -x. works for my a8n-sli premium with amd 3800+ x2 and 10.4.5.

tjohnson ... did you have a problem like mine?

i seem to have this issue that doing an install seems to completely screw up the hfs+ partiiton. it is no longer readable by anything, including the install disk. have you had this issue?

how did you get it working on your step?

Mine would install in vmware only. When I would boot off the hard disk, it would start and hit a kernel panic saying disk0s1: i/o error repeatedly. I found that the only way to boot was to boot off the install dvd and use the kernel flags above. it would then start with no issues except that I couldn't load kexts and stuff to get the onboard NICs to work. I'm using an A8N-SLi Premium with an AMD x2 3800+ and a WD400 PATA HD.

ok ... so i tried what you said.

if i boot the installer DVD with -x -v and no RD line, it starts the installer and sucesfully mounts my vmware-installed osx partition.

if i boot the installer DVD with -v it fails to mount the vmware-installed osx partition.

if i boot the installer DVD with -x -v rd=disk0s2 (my osx partition), it still gives me endless I/O errors.

Two questions:

what was the exact line you fed to the installer? maybe im getting the flags in the wrong order? was it

-x -v rd=disk0s1?

also ... are you still starting your osx only with the installer DVD?

why do you think this strange thing is hapenning?

just bought a new IDE-cable (80pin - before I was using my old 40pin cable, didn't know that there are differences) and everything works great - now I am writing this post in safari/native install on my ATA HD - no more i/o errors!

maybe this helps anyone with i/o error problems.

many greetings from berlin

yes - tried to install several times and installations were always successful. but on the first boot I had these i/o errors - osx didn't start. Booting the installation-dvd and starting diskutil always said that the partition is damaged (something with the b-tree...).

Now with the new cable the problem is gone. So if you have the possibility to buy a new 80pin cable I would do that.

Good luck!

Ok I found a way around it (i had it with 1.4.3 i havn't been on the fourms for a long time and i'm sorry)

Here is what I did, I installed Xcode, comililed all of the IOATAFamily.kext (and the kexts inside of it), so I had a fresh new one that didn't have any of the "patches", that gives all of us nforce4 useres working ATA! have fun!

If this link doesn't work, tell me and I will put up a new one for you. (tell me where)
