thunder.scripts
What software can I use to extend the size of the current OS X partition? I installed it in a small 10gb just to try it but since it's working perfectly I'm going to extend it. I thought I could use Partition Magic in Windows to free some space. But now, which program can I use to add that free space to my hfs partition? Thanks Fede Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15742-partition-manager/ Share on other sites
macgirl
There are no Partition Managers that can handle PC Scheme, all partitions managers now are PPC apps only and even that they can run on OSX86 they can't handle the partition scheme, they only work with Mac partition Scheme. Colonel
Could you tell me of some partition managers for my PPC iMac? I want to put Fedora on it, but I don't want to completely erase the disk for a new partition. cwestpha
Isnt there an open source Linux based Partition Magic like (in that it is like it but doesnt actualy destroy the partition) utility that allows nondestructive resizing of almost every File System to date (expect NTFS I think). Couldnt you just use that to resize the HFS+ partition? Colonel
Fedora just wants to erase my mac partition. I found apps like iPartition and DiskStudio, but I don't want to have to pay. Is there a freeware app that will partition for me? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15742-partition-manager/#findComment-101855 Share on other sites
baronseng
Linux Google is your friend indeed http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=89960 I've tried it but without success. I suspect I've a ntfs partition following the hfs+ is the cause of the problem. Please try it out and post results~ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/15742-partition-manager/#findComment-101866 Share on other sites
Colonel
I'll try it out sometime in the next few days. I'll let you know how it goes. In the mean time, does anyone know of anything else that will work? cwestpha
umm... http://www.gnu.org/software/parted/ Would that work? There are many front ends to the thing (for those who dont like doing the math) and there are plenty of live CDs that include it on them. Did you actually bother to read the table and associated notes on that page? Parted can only shrink an HFS or HFS+ partition, and the starting point must stay the same. The person who started this thread is looking to make the partition larger, not smaller.
