[Dell Inspiron 8500] Success and Install guide

Hi all,

Thanks to all the great work and dedication (not to mention helpfulness) of people here I've installed MacOSX 10.4.4 (and upgraded to 10.4.6) on a Dell Inspiron 8500. It was an interesting exercise but it taught me a lot about MacOSX internals and made me want to go buy a nice shiny new Intel based Mac next paycheck :)

To "give something back" I documented what I've done (very roughly) on the wiki:

Hope this helps anyone else who has a similar rig (or components)

Cheers

Just a small addendum.

The only annoying thing which doesn't work. Trying to set up a synchronised iDisk for my .mac account.

Every time I try to turn on sync for iDisk in System Preferences the MirrorAgent.app crashes. I've tried the recommended fixes from other MacOSX sites so I'm sure the remaining problems are specific to this configuration etc.

Anyone seen anything like this and could point me at some ideas for solving it? Is it a common problem for osx86 configurations? Does an older version of iDisk syncing work? etc etc.

It would be nice to have something fundamental like this working :)

Cheers.

joev.
