Heyyy, unfortunately due to low funds I've had to sell my 24" iMac but I want to make a hackintosh

Would this machine work? I'd understand if it needed another GB of Ram, I've seen atom based macs done before so I don't see why not

Yeah. It should work because it's just based on the Intel 945GCLF2 which works perfectly.

You might want to add a compatible USB sound stick as the system will only support Audio OUT and give you no sound input!

(Sorry if I'm being dumb, but where should I start?) I did download a boot 321 disk and tried that with my retail leopard disk but after the installation it stayed on the white apple screen for ages and didn't move

I don't know the difference between an Atom 230 and Atom 330, but I built a mini-ITX system using the Intel 945GCLF2 (Atom 330) motherboard, 2GB RAM, and the iATKOS 5i disc. Everything works except audio in, and front panel audio out.

Total cost for the parts from newegg.com (motherboard/CPU, case, RAM, DVD burner, 320GB HD) was under US$250.
