I'm trying to install OSx86 10.5.6 on my GA-EP45-UD3R motherboard. I have a Nvidia GTX 260 video card. I have read on the forums and wiki that the OSx86 install does not support the gtx 260.

I'm dual booting with an XP 32bit for gaming and such.

Is there something else I can do? Are there basic drivers out there I can use.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

'Hi, It is not just osx86 not supporting gtx 260 but osx in general does not support this graphics card. Mac computers use lower quality graphics cards and they have support for lower cards such as 8800 series or 7 series cards. Gtx 260 should be supported in snow leopard when it is released.

For now osx should still work but you will be in VESA mode. It is a generic driver that supports a basic image only. You will have no graphics acceleration at all.

Just to clarify. I was using the iPC OSx86 install. I did finally get it to boot up and run the MAC OS. I just didn't select any video drivers.

However, as the VESA drivers work, they barely work. Scrolling windows messes up the screen. It is unusable at that point. But as long as you just open up windows without scrolling them they are fine.

Does anybody else have this problem or is it just me?

typing on my 10.5.6 now, exactly same problem as you.

my thread: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...156299&st=0

Well I glad I'm not the only one :D I read your thread and I find it interested that it use to work before 10.5.6. I'm going to install a Nvidia 8800 GTS 640 this weekend and see if I can get that to work. My XP system is my main system and I need a high performance card to run the latest games.

It looks like i will also have to sacrafice my X-fi sound card because there are no drivers for it on the mac

Let me know if you find anything :)

thanks

are you going to put 2 graphics cards in at the same time??

i also have a 8800GTS 320MB laying around, it would be great as a PhysX processor in Windows, if it is possible to run full featured graphics off that in Mac, that would be wonderful.

however with 2 cards both plugged in, might be very difficult as i think the display card must have the monitor plugged in in Windows, but Mac may also need display to be plugged into the activate card (the 8800GTS)

were there official Apple support for G80 GPUs??

I will be installing my old 8800gts 640 today. I need to do some research on exactly how to do that  i might have add some strings or something. If you figure it out first please let me know. I will only have one card installed. The 260 will have to be shelved until supported.
