De_Bilbao
I have to reinstall Windows XP in a quite old system with a configuration rarely seen around here, and I would like to know if there is any chance to get Leo working on it. I don't know if it could be possible, but I'll try to get it running. Right now I have different distros: Kalyway 10.5.2, Leo4All 10.5.2, iDeneb 10.5.5, iPC OSx86 10.5.6, even the Retail DVD for version 10.5.2, 10.5.4 and the latest 10.5.6. I'm not going to try BOOT-132, i think that this method can' be used, although if you think I'm wrong let me know. So I'll keep the focus on trying the different distros, but I need help to choose the most compatible one and the best installation settings for this setup. This is the part list. I'm going to upgrade the memory and the hard drive and I could consider buying a new video card if required. Gigabyte GA-8ST800 motherboard 1 GB (2x512MB) DDR memory SiS 645DX Chipset Realtek AC'97 Audio Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.4 GHz (Northwood) processor ATI Radeon 7000 video card (VendorID: 1002 DeviceID: 5159) 80GB Seagate ST380021A IDE hard drive Pioneer DVR-109 IDE DVD recorder Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/156189-success-leopard-1056-working-on-gigabyte-ga-8st800/ Share on other sites
De_Bilbao
Although I hadn't much hope for success with this setup, I gave an opportunity to iPC OSx86 and it has been really easy to setup Mac OS X 10.5.6 without too much trouble. The system is not fine until now, because I'm getting kernel_task hogging the CPU, peaking up to 90% everytime I begin to do something. I don't know how to get rid of this, and I'm beggining to think that maybe is a memory related problem due to my configuration: - Gigabyte GA-8ST800 motherboard - Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.4 GHz (Northwood) processor - 1GB RAM in 3 PC2100 133 MHz DIMM: 1x512MB + 2x256 - nVidia GeForce 6600 AGP graphic card - Terratec Aureon USB stick soundcard - Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 300GB IDE hard drive - Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80 GB IDE hard drive - Pioneer DVR-109 DVD IDE recorder I have setup the iPC OSx86 (PPF2) base system with: - Languages reduced to english + spanish (my mother language) - kernel voodoo 9.5.0 - VIA/SiS/Marvell SB Chipset drivers - PS2 keyboard and mouse fix - A modified AppleDecrypt kext so it doesn't verbose everything it decrypts. - Patched USB drivers and PCGenUSBEHCI - Seatbelt kext 10.5.5 - AppleSMBIOSEFI I haven't selected either video or audio drivers because I've managed to get full CI/QE support via EFI strings. The GeForce 6600 256 MB AGP is greatly supported and the Terratec Aueron USB audio card is a marvellous stick that offers full compatibility for OSX with both sound input and output. I've installed also the Chamaleon 1.0.12 bootloader, a must if you try to get a multi-boot system and this setup is actually running Windows XP + Windows 7 + Leopard 10.5.6, boot managed by EasyBCD 2.0 beta. I've tried many different installs in a separate drive, with many combinations and everytime I get the same kernel_task hogging the CPU and it leads to an unusable system. Hope someone could shed a light on this...
