I'm running iPC on my EVGA 780i board. After much difficulty it seems like almost everything is working. However, though my optical drive appears in the hardware list in OS X 10.5.6 when I insert a disc it attempts to read the disc: the read light blinks at varying intervals and then falls into a steady on/off sequence. It doesn't resolve from this state.

I'm looked around, but I can't seem to find a solution...

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: After inserting my install DVD and waiting for about 10 mins it eventually informed me that I had inserted a blank DVD. That would be fine, if the DVD were blank. ;) Anyway, I'm now more confused about the issue...

You could try installing MeDevil's AppleNForceATA-TEST.kext.......see here .......instead of the default AppleNForceATA for > 3GB RAM from slashack but then you will need to use maxmem=3072 if you have > 3GB RAM installed......

Okay, I will try that...perhaps installing onto a test partition is best though...? Can I swap out my SATA kext with the test kext and safely change back to my current kext if something goes wrong?

Actually, I don't know how to change kexts after installing from the DVD... :)

Go to Terminal:

cd /System/Library/Extensions/
ls
sudo mv AppleNForceATA.kext AppleNForceATA.orig
ls
exit

Then use Kext Helper b7 to install the new kext.....

Success! Thank you :)

Glad to help...... :)
