mk1277
OK- I'm a newbie poster, but been reading this forum off and on for a long time. I have recently had success in setting up the following system through a lot of research and trial/error. Here's what I've got setup: HP dc5750 Mini Tower AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ 2.1 GHz CPU (dual core) 4GB RAM OSX Partition: external USB drive (80GB) - Extended (journaled) with MBR Boot: PC EFI v9 (Chameleon 1.0.12) Kernel: VooDoo 9.5 Chipset: ATI - working with ATI kext from DVD SMBIOS: 667 installed from DVD Audio: working with Azalia from DVD Video: NVidia 7300 GT - working with NVDarwin 256MB kext from DVD Ethernet: Broadcom 5755 - working with custom kext (info.plist and hex changes) FireWire: PCI card installed (forget the brand) - working from DVD USB: working from DVD I have only two issues and both are fairly easy to work around for now. I'd like to see if I can fix them though. 1) Need to unplug USB input devices to get bootloader to run (memory allocation error 0x8000). Once the bootloader is started, OK to plug back in. I've seen another thread with dc5750 owners that have the same problem. I've not seen a fix. Is this maybe an AMD issue? Just this mobo? I can't believe that everyone here is using PS2 input devices. I've not seen any useful BIOS settings that may help either. It has fairly basic options/settings. 2) Sleep. I know this is a notoriously difficult issue. I can get the computer to sleep. I can also get it to wake up. However, once it is back from sleep, I cannot launch any application. The GUI is essentially unusable. The mouse cursor moves/works, but I cannot really do anything useful since no apps launch. Right now, I have simply set the power management to keep the computer from sleeping (set to at least one hour before sleep). One note is that I have not run any DSDT patch yet. I'm still reading about DSDT, what it fixes and how to really use it. Seems to be automatic, but I want to make sure I know what it does first. Any help on diagnosing the issues above would be appreciated. All the great work from the community is also appreciated. Thanks. Edit: changed my Chipset info. I had the incorrect info and kext listed. Also, I have a couple new issues: 1) I cannot burn anything to my Samsung SH-S203N burner. I tried using iTunes to create a CD. Fails with device not ready error. Edit: Still having problems. Have tried burning an ISO in diskutility and tried Burn. Both have the same error. I did also get a kernel panic at first in diskutility. The message pointed to the fact I had 4GB of RAM and failed to use the -force64 switch for the VooDoo kernel. Using the switch cleared up the kernel panic. 2) I cannot get a finalized iDVD movie. I can edit and export a video from iMovie to iDVD, but the process fails when iDVD reaches the end of the encoding process. I've tried encoding and burning directly to DVD which has not worked. I've also tried exporting the project as a VIDEO_TS folder so I can either burn with another program, OS or computer. Export still fails. Edit: FIXED. This appears to have been some menu problem. I made some changes to the project (specifically removed audio from the menu) and was able to export to a VIDEO_TS folder. mk1277
Bumping this thread since I've encountered a couple other issues. I haven't seen a good explanation for either the DVD drive or encoding problem. I'm guessing it's some kind of AMD issue with the Voodoo kernel. Any ideas how to troubleshoot? sansabar
I have the same system (dc5750), with a 2.4 single core and 7300 GS, running iATKOS 10.5.7 udated to 10.5.8. Any chance you could post the kext for the onboard ethernet? I could not get mine working and used a a realtek 8169 based card. I also am working on the sleep issue. sansabar
i want my mic to work. Just get a USB mic, they're cheap and work great, you just have to select it as the input in the Sound preference pane.
