ChocolateJeff
Hi All, First of all I wanted to say (since I have not been on Insanely Mac Forums for a long time) that the new look for insanely mac... is insanely awesome.. kudos to whoever that was working on that. I really like the new icon(?) to the old one. Anyway, I am here today because I have a question to ask. My good ol trusty Macbook has begin to go crazy. I have Vista on my machine and I dual boot. I play some games on my windows side like C&C 3 which is probably pushing the graphics capability of my Macbook's integrated graphics. I have begun to notice, that one day when I was using my macbook to type a report, the fans started to get louder and louder. This happened when I was in the Leopard OS, working with Word 2008. I thought, its going to go away soon and didn't think much of it. Soon, after using my computer like how I normally do (i.e surf the net, watch Youtube, Listen Music, Watch Movies) the FANs STaRTED getting louder and crazier. It was till a point that the sound of the fan was LOUDER THAN MY MUSIC!!! so I decided there was something wrong with my computer. I looked for an application to control my fan speed and found smcFanControl. It was good.. for the first two days.. now my macbook's fan has gone into crazy mode again. This crazy fan mode also caused my system to randomly shut down couple of times. When I was in the Visualization mode in Itunes (full screen), when I was watching a movie, when I was ripping a dvd, when I was burning a dvd, when I am in iphoto, when I work in HUGE EXCEL SHEETS and many other scenarios. It seems using applications that might hog up CPU or memory just makes my computer shuts. Now this is a very scary thing for me because I use Keynote and give presentations all the time with my macbook. If it fails then, that would be very embarrassing. I have 2G of RAM and am planning to update it to 3G. They are not stock RAMs as I bought it myself from a computer store. (about a year ago) I've had this computer for close to two years now and I believe my warranty is out. :pirate2: Thanks for any help. Peace Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/155603-macbook-white-216-ghz-fans-out-of-control/ Share on other sites

ChocolateJeff
Time Machine.. hmm that could potentially be the problem.. I kept getting pop-ups saying I haven't backed my machine up for ... 20 days.. 30 days... and just a couple days ago.. 40 days.. I am actually living and working in a different city but left my external drive back home.. Maybe I should turn my time Machine off and see what happens.. That's weird though.. because the fan problem persists in Vista when I dual boot... Thanks for the help anyway. I'll keep you posted if I notice anything with Time Machine turned off UPDATE: turning off the time machine didn't do much of anything. The fans is going absolutely crazy now. My computer has randomly shut up 3 times today. It is not looking good. I believe I have a faulty fan and need to replace it pronto. I looked into ifixit.com for a fan and they had one! but, the shipping price was a little too much I was wondering if any canadian homies out there can help me out by knowing any places I can purchase a macbook core 2 duo 2.16Ghz fan. THANK YOU! EDIT: I wonder if its the fan now that I should replace. Seems to make sense that it is the faulty component causing this horrible noise. However, it got me thinking about the processor. How would I know if the problem wasn't my fan but the processor? or what if the temperature sensor in the CPU is messed up? How would I know that too? If you know how I can verify these before I make my purchase, let me know.
