Like the title says, i'm on 10.5.2 now, and i want 10.5.6

I've tryed some things, and all they resulted in was that i had to reinstall kalyway...

Has someone a tutorial that works perfectly to do this?

steyn-van-houtes-mac-pro:~ steynvanhoute$ uname -a
Darwin steyn-van-houtes-mac-pro.local 9.2.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.2.0: Sun Mar 2 00:11:08 SCT 2008; made by ToH:xnu-1228/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_I386 i386

Someone?

With a special combo-update i've found i was on 10.5.3...

But then i wanted to go to 10.5.4, and i've read that i just needed the single install from apple... that didn't work, so i needed to install again...

Next time i'll use time machine :)

I'm btw not on vanilla, that's maybe the reason that the single install didn't work?

I'm on the sleepkernel, vanilla doesn't work here.

How can i go to 10.5.6 from 10.5.2 or 10.5.3?

This is how i get from Kalyway 10.5.2 to 10.5.6

I assume you know where to find the files / how to use the search tool.

NB : I was running Voodoo kernel

Backup your extension folder using OSX86tools.

Get a kalyway DVD in case of you'll have to copy some backed up kext to get your new system to work.

download

-MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.6.dmg

-PCefi_v9_Installer_Final 2.dmg

-Disabler.kext

To do :

-Install PC EFI 9

-Make sure that apple.Boot.plist isn't on "Quiet boot" (tricky thing )

-Open terminal, type

"sudo su" then your password, then

"while sleep 1 ; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext ; done"

mount 10.5.6 combo, install while monitoring for appleintelcpupowermanagement.kext in extensions folder. Should appear and get deleted super fast. do not restart!

in terminal, press Ctrl+C to quit the script, and type

"nano /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1"

Find there Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext and replace with this dsmos.kext. save file.

At this point, I reinstalled Voodoo kernel, if you want & can run Vanilla, don't do it.

IF you do so, don't forget System.kext & Seatbelt.kext from .5 or you won't be able to mount dmg / use USB

Restart.

You will probably have to reinstall somes .kext from your old folder to get Sound or graphics. If you can't do this from your new install, do it from the DVD.

After this, tada, image1h.png

Benny: iatkos is a good choise, but i can't download it just to try because i live in belgium (here we have download limits).

So iatkos i'll only use if it really doesn't work to update to 10.5.6

Olotiar: Finding the tools won't be a prob for me, hehe :P

I hope that it'll work, because i use sleepkernel (not vanilla or something), and the last time i've installed the combo update, my hackintosh blocked in the middle of the install...

Let's try. :)

Ow yeah, that did work, Olotiar. :)

Now I've got a question:

I'm on the newest version of OSX, can i now run Software Update without having the chance that I would download a kernel of something that would shrew up this install?

As long I don't install version updates of OSX himself?

10.5.7 isn't here yet, so I've think that won't be a problem, but I'm not sure about security updates...

You know, Apple may change something in the future, so we don't know for sure whether it will continue to work BUT

If you have a vanilla capable system, and the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext disabler, you can update.

OR

If you have a retail Boot-132 install, with all the kexts in a /Extra folder, you can update without worries.

But I always check Insanelymac every time Apple updates OS X

Any particular reason why you got yourself in so much work?. Do you think 10.5.6 is better?. I see no reason even 10.4 is good too.

My motives were to benefit the latest Macintosh sofwares.

When I saw that iWork 09 was not ok for my 10.5.2, I said "Well, I don't use iWork that much, that's not bad"

When I saw Oblivion (*cough* *cough*) dialog box "Your version is to old, you need 10.5.6" i said "With Crappy Intel video card, it would not have been fun anyway"

When I saw Safari4 ... etc ... I said "F*ck it", i browse the net every day of my life, I need this.

Moreover, Apple does not update to justify developper's salary. Bug are fixed. Features are added (not so much - ok).

I agree with the last sentence i use mac for many years and still use it but if it was not for the developers an sure no one in mac will update and is a fact that until 10.4.8 people use to wait a month before upgrading afraid of new bugs.

What so great about iWork anyway I use to sell it a big ripoff.

Safari was my favor until Chrome kick him i the b..ls.

What model is that TrueMobile Card you say it work?

Well,, I don't really like Google Chrome. To be honest, I didn't gave it a try, I just don't want any google software in my PC cause I think they're in a kind of world-domination plan :P

iWork is important to me, cause everybody need a word processor. Like I said, I wasn't looking forward the new 09, but why not take it now that I can ?

I'm using Dell Truemobile 1390 card right now :)

Need it for iWork and more programs, but that doesn't matter. :hysterical:

I've got a new problem now.

With the installation of 10.5.6 my quartz extreme is not supported anymore.

Why didn't I posted this before?

Because I first wanted to fix this, but it didn't work.

I don't want to install everything again...

Ok, why do I need this?

For some emulation programs, for iWork, and for playing DVD's (having a pc with a 22" screen without the capability of playing DVD's...)

In 10.5.2 this al still worked.

I don't know of it was this update, of another, because after this installation, I used software update to do all the other updates, and I read something about an iPhoto update...

I've got a 7650GS btw, hope someone can help me?

edit:

I've tryed some thing, and this is the new above part of the system profiler:

nVidia GeForce 7600 GS:

Never there is a 7650GS, but i've though that the 7600GS is much likely the 7650GS.

But here again: no quartz extreme supported...

There must be some way?

Try removing whatever it is you're using and using an EFI-string. Good for this is EFI Studio and OSx86Tools.

already tryed that.

Ok, new updates:

I discovered when I'm on 10.5.2 it all works, because i did a clean install today (just for testing this).

After that install, I inmediatly installed 10.5.6, and after that, it didn't work no more.

So: the update to 10.5.6 is the cause.

Because I already tryed NVInject and EFI string, I've downloaded a new distro: iPC 10.5.6

This i've got installed, but the same problem: NVInject recognises my card, but QE isn't enabled.

So i'm back on 10.5.2 now... waiting for a solution.

The reasons for 10.5.6 are:

-iWork (owns MS office 2008 and openoffice) needed for work

-Safari 4.0 (used it 2-3 weeks, can't live any longer without it  )

-iLife, needs alsof 10.5.6

Offtopic: don't blame me for bad words, i live in Belgium and speak normally Dutch, so it can be that some words aren't normal translated.

If you have a vanilla capable system, and the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext disabler, you can update.

Hey,

I'm new to this, just built a machine and it seems to be running Kalyway 10.5.2 (updated to 10.5.3 via combo update then to 10.5.4 using the original Apple .dmg update) just fine.

How do I know if my system is "vanilla capable"?? I know I did install this kext though, can I go ahead and update to 10.5.6? (I also updated Chameleon 1.0.11 to 1.0.12)

Thanks!

If you have kalyway, you can test each kernel by typing the name on booting.

So you press any key, and then you type vanilla (and press return).

If you can boot, then you have a vanilla capable system.

And I must say that you're lucky if you've a vanilla system, less problems with drivers (like me), and updating is less an problem.
