funkbanshee
After a load of trial and error i have finaly got a working hackingtosh! WOOOP! i do need to point out that everything i have done has already been tried and i have found it on various insanely forms, web sites and everywhere else so i take no credit for everything and i will give links when possible. i also take it when i am explaining things that you have a basic computer literacy and you have tried researching some of this information yourself. back up all your data and get a vista recovery disc (not vista install disc/it should only be 120MB) it will be a hell of a lot easier if you have a second computer to search the web if you get stuck or sumthing goes wrong. good luck here is a link to another tutorial to help. i used this as a starting point http://dailyapps.net/2008/03/hack-attack-d...-windows-vista/ firstly i tried iAtkos V4i as this was the normal starting point for the first few dual boot tutorials i found. i did the usual and setup a partition with windows vista management and formated it in fat 32. booted the pc with the cd and then -v then used disk utiltiy to format in mac extented journal and of i went to install. but after installed, it just would not boot and i had great trouble booting back into windows. but i found a good site comparing iAtkos to Kalyway ( the site is down at the time of writing this) www.andrewgrant.org/2008/03/26/installing-osx86-part-1-iatkos-v-kalyway.html it basicly listed different reasons why Kalyway is better, mainly due to more patchs on install. it also mentioned a really handy program called easyBCD which tbh is a god send for dual boot systems and a must. link below http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 so i formated my mac partition and gave it a go with Kalyway 10.5.2 and first thing that i had trouble with was it would start to crash a few stages into the boot, it would crash when the darwin bootloader is being setup. so i restarted and used -x to boot into safe mode and it took a little bit longer but all was fine. formated partition with disk utility and off i went again (key thing to remember with setting the name of partition! no spaces). the custom patchs with Kalyway where already setup to the standerd ones and it mite be different depending on the kalyway you have but just give it a go. the only thing i had to add was the INject 512MB and the yukon patch but i will cover that in a bit. after the install it should boot into mac OS with or without the CD. go through the steps and skip the register page with "alt + q" and should load the desktop. after this reboot and take the CD out. you should see the darwin count down as usual. hit F8 and type -s. this should load a little bit and come to a command line. this is where you set the boot partition back to windows. type this ---- fdisk -e /dev/rdrisk0 flag 2 "this is the partition of vista, i have a recover partition on 1, vista 2, 3 is my mac" quit reboot pop the vista recovery disk in and repair the boot loader. you should be able to boot back into windows now. once in vista load up easyBCD and add a entry mac osx86 save it and reboot. easy bcd is great coz if you mess up you can just reload the orginal vista bootloader which can come in really handy if your like me and format and reinstall many times over. ok now you should see a choice of vista of mac to load, select mac and then you should see a count down, F8 then select your mac partition..... yay you are now booting into mac. if it stalls of crashs reboot it a few times and try a few things like -v of -x when selecting the partition. ok there was a few things not working which i have been able to locate patchs and fixes for. first thing was non of the USB ports where working, i would explain on how to fix this but there is a few steps so if you have the same problem please check out the link below. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=95789 second this was my graphics card was not working. i have a nVidia 8600M GS 512MB with accelarated graphics. if you have a similar laptop you will know that nvidia dont handle the drivers for this so when it wasnt working i almost acepted defeat but then i came across NVkush drivers and it worked with a simple install. it is just 256MB but can be edited to 512MB http://diabolik1605.com/DHF/ right now i have a nice looking mac and i can change things around a perk it out but what use is a laptop nowadays without internet! unfortunitly i havnt got any of the onboard stuff working like the wireless - intel 4965 AGN just doesnt have working drivers yet. but below is some who has got the Marvel Yukon 88e8039 ethernet working. i started working through this but gave up after 20min as i remembered i had a wireless usb dongle. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...php/t96959.html my USB wireless is a TP Link 321 G it is not compatible with macs so you will not find drivers for it but you can get it working as it uses a Ralink RT 71 chip or somthing inside which does work. drivers are below and under that link is a link to where i found out about the compatability http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/Home/Support/Macintosh.html http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...php/t96326.html Special thanks to everyone posting on insanelymac, AppleX, macgirl, hanswurst and everyone else who has posted there tips and experiances.
